hey guys

any1 know how to add a .srt file to a mkv file?
i've tried mkvtoolnix, but it doesnt seem to work.
its for an HD movie, so ide like to retain the quality rather than convert it.

thanks in advance :)

Yikes!!!

You are looking for something that will re-record the entire file as the .srt is displayed.

You are looking at inevitable loss of quality and possibly synch problems as well.

Why can't you just distribute or store the .srt file with the mkv?

excuse my noobness Garyvdh

if i store the srt with the mkv, how would you suggest i play the movie and the subtitled file for the foreign parts.
I tried with VLC but it played the subtitles constantly for the english audio and then didnt play it for the foreign language parts.
i have two srt files, one for full english subtitles, the other english subs for foreign parts only. i tried both to no avail.

any help will be appreciated.
thanks for the speedy reply :)

A codec pack like K-Lite includes DirectVOBSub and that will play your subs on a player like Media Player

Ooops... sorry to take so long. I just keep the .srt file in the same folder as my movie and I watch it using either VLC or Windows Media Player. Not sure why yours is behaving strangely. Which movie is it? Pm me if you don't wanna put the answer here.
