Bought a MacBook Pro 17" about 2 years ago. I've upgraded the memory to 8Gb and are looking to install a 500Gb SSD. I'm using Fusion to run Windows 7 as I need VS2010 for work.

What is the best drive to install ? (Speed & reliability)

Go read Anandtech review of SSD's, they are incredibly detailed and thorough. Well he recommends Samsung SSD 830 series. In fact Apple uses them on the 2012 range of MacBooks. They're extremely fast and very reliable. Intel SSD's are also recommended for the best reliability and have the best warranty, although I think it's ever so slightly slower than Samsung. both work great in Macs.

Just got a SanDisk SSD 120GB extreme for my mac book pro 13" Works like a charm. From power to login screen - 16 Seconds. Shutdown - 3 seconds. Cannot beat that :-)

Ah yes, using the Sandforce controller. It's very good. The intelligent controller obviates the need for TRIM, a big plus for Macs if you don't manually enable TRIM. In fact Intel use it on the 520. For the best reliability, I'd recommend Intel. They also have the longest warranty. I'm actually gonna change my recommendation to the Intel SSD 520.

That agility 4 is very good. And your laptop feels like a new one with an SSD.
