As some new to the whole SSD thing ... anything I should know or tips?
Certain brands?
Marketing hyper to be avoided?
Certain specs to make sure it has / doesn't have ?
SSDs also fail and when they do it's more catastrophic than a normal hdd failure so backup your data.
Did someone say ssds don't fail? it sounds like you are in one of those wars except you hate ssd's and love your 7200rpm's.
obviously ssds fail as does every single computer component we use. so whether you have a 5400rpm/7200rpm or ssd you should back up, nothing is catastrophic about a hdd crash if you have backed up regardless of the tech used.
HDD's failing is way more catastrophic since you have to decide whether you want to spend R3000+ to possibly recover data. With a SSD you don't have that choice![]()
Brands to look at:
Corsair
OCZ
Intel
Samsung (Available at Wootware)
I haven't seen the Intel SSD drives for sale in South Africa yet.
Did Intel decide to hate Africa again?
Make sure you buy sata 3 even if you don't have a sata 3 port.
