SSD prices falling

I want it faster and the current bottleneck is the HD my OS lives on.
Even linux users experience big improvements. 'Seek times' is the main thing.

Same here I'm thinking of getting the 32GB for my Linux, 32GB would be too small for my Windows because I'll be loading games onto it.

I bought a 350gb velociraptor for 3.5k so i am not adverse to spending alot on hdd's, the reason i wanted an ssd was because i saw how fast a raptor was with 5ms seek time compared to most 7200's which are about 12ms and people said yes killa but that is ms's.

I have a velociraptor but I don't notice much difference, I only really see the difference when I run benchmarks but I feel that I waisted my money, if I saved it I could have enough for a SSD now. :o

I got mine and blackmarket price, and wil admit that I would not pay the current retail price for it (R10K+ last time I checked).

If you want run Vista (Maybe Win7?) of a SSD, I would not go for a 32GB version. Vista barely fits on it. Yes, I know people just want it for a OS drive, but seeing simple office applications open in a flash is part of what makes a SSD so good.

Do you not see the difference? i am amazed at that comment to be honest.

there is a massive difference between a raptor and normal drive damn. Have you tried running your system on a 7200rpm or did you go from 7200 to raptor and not test it out with a normal drive again?

Go load your windows system on a 7200rpm and then come back and tell me that. Corne the market price in this country is not 10k man. That is our suppliers ripping us off. You can import for 300 dolla + 10% + 14% + 50 dolla for delivery = around 4.3k for a 120gb.

Why they do not import some drives and sell em for 4k i have no idea, they would sell plenty.

Yes, there is a massive difference on my older SATA drives but I bought new 7200RPM western digital AAKS drives and they can keep up pretty well with the veloci and are silent. The noise probably makes my veloci sound slower.

Like I said when I run a benchmark the difference is clear... but nothing to wet my pants over...

Hell, for a 128Gb SSD thats not a bad price, but it's still not value for money. The moment they get to the same price as you velociraptors, I'd suggest you get one.

I don't doubt the prices will come down I mean the cost to manufacture a SSD must surely be cheaper than a Hard Disk Drive considering all those expensive moving parts.

But the biggest benefit of the SSD for me regardless of the speed is that we have more manufacturers to choose from... Intel, Samsung, Patriot, OCZ, Transcend, Kingston, etc. not the current HDD oligopoly.

It is not actually a good thing aqua because it splits the market and increases the time it is taking for ssd's to come down in price.

If there was only 3 or 4 ssd's would already be cheaper than raptors but so many companies make these drives that it is keeping the prices higher i think. 5k is a very good price for a 120gb ssd at the moment.

lol i also have a couple of "black market" 128 ssd's and any other system is dog slow in comparison. I still need to try raid sometime though.

Well raid will just be to get the read/write going :), imagine ssd with raid speed ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh i should have bought a second one!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone please PM me with info on these "black market" SSDs please.

Aqua bad choice my man, my chick said babe this deal sounds dodgy haha

Lucky i am a big believer in COD, if it was rubbish he would have wanted a transfer and not to meet, upon meet i inspect the item and i tell him i am doing so as this deal seems too good to be true and BAM gave him 20 crisp 100 buck notes :p, sometimes you just gotta have a lil faith o and of course howard assured me it was legit :p

Doing deals on the blackmarket... not really my forte.

But I changed my mind because the drive I wanted was sold out, was not going to settle for the smaller drive. ;)

ERm black market? Overstock from Dell more like it... By now I think his sold all of them
