SSD prices falling

That's probably a SLC SSD the cheaper SSD's are MLC but anyway you can get a Patriot 128GB locally for R5000 was 2x as much a few months ago.

No, it's MLC, I think.

Toshiba's second-generation SSDs include a multilevel cell controller that achieves read/write speeds of 240 MBps and 200 MBps, respectively. The drives also offer data encryption that complies with the Advanced Encryption Standard.

ERm black market? Overstock from Dell more like it... By now I think his sold all of them

Yea well thats the story i was told and i am sticking by it :p

I am not going to question it :p Aqua the one you wanted was 64gb hey? the SLC version?

Thinking about it now i should have rather bought 64gb slc's and raided them :)

Yeah "Overstock from Dell" could easily be a typo of "Overstole from Dell"

Yep the 64GB.

aqua to be honest if i did not buy a drive someone else would have so regardless where it came from i was not missing the deal :)

You snooze you lose and not having bought one would have been stupid, why did you not buy the 128gb it was only 500 bucks more or something.

It was not over-stock he said they could not sell it in the laptops :p

I think it was more than just 500 but I never had a 2.5" to 3.5" converter and my coolermaster case does not have space for a 2.5" either so I was thinking of getting a converter first.

It's not a big deal I'm sure that in 2 months time I'll have a SSD.

Hope so i don't have a converter either mine just hangs out in the bottom on my coolermaster case :)

Nice thing about these drives are they are very robust small and quite plus you can drop them 2 stories so lying around my case it should be fine hehe.

Aggg to be honest aqua if you only use windows for gaming and that sort of stuff then its kinda pointless but i use photoshop and corel draw so having a hdd that is fast makes my life easier, not important if all you do is boot into windows to game. Raptor will handle that with ease.

LOL

Trust me dude Linux is not pointless I use Photoshop in Linux on XP using Virtualbox and everything else is done on Linux which I could do on Windows except game.

The SSD will be put to good use I can assure you. :D

No your missed my point though, i never said anything about linux.

My point was if you only game and do not work on your pc then an SSD won't be such a massive thing. If you use stuff like photoshop(regardless of what OS) then yea get one ASAP.

excuse my ignorance though but surely using photoshop in a virtual box with windows xp is running photoshop in windows, your basically taking 3 steps to run photoshop.

1.load linux
2. load virtual box
3. run photoshop on windows xp

Is my understanding a bit wrong and photoshop is not being used on a windows platform? Not that it matters just wondering :)

No prob I got you, yes I do plan on getting one.

Yes, it's running on Windows in a virtual machine essentially.

It could also be run directly in Linux via WINE.

Yea for sure but i heard only photoshop cs2 runs under wine for the moment, agg but if you can run linux with a virtual box why mess around trying to get stuff working when you can just use windows inside linux.

Well it said Dell on the sticker...
Even if it was stolen, OMW too bad!! I'm the one with a 64GB SLC based SSD!

No 100% correct, I prefer running my Photohop install in a virtual machine because I can reinstall my system OS then just resume my virtual machine and what I was working on and not have to reinstall Photoshop or the CS# suite.

So I have no down time and XP boots up so quickly as a Virtual Machine.

Yar well windows, linux whateva i say :)

Although i have to give windows 7 a massive vote for FU%6ING AMAZINGNESS :P

Now once PB gets working i will be styling :)

What version of PS you use? on windows 7 photoshop cs3 open in like 1 second, blows xp and vista out the water.

Icy dock converters available for R180 from Take2. Mine dangled for a few months lol.

I use CS3.

Yep 7 is good, everything loads quickly on my machine, I was going to make it my work machine instead of Linux(also running XP with CS3 in a virtual machine) but Virtualbox caused a BSOD so I went back to Linux.
