perhaps you could tell me how, i managed to get a connection to the network in the maldives and then when i tried to establish the route my connection died, perhaps i was doing something wrong?

This sounds interesting. I haven't tried it yet - but I'm told it's not so easy to SSH when using mobile connection.

imho SSH is no problem over a mobile(3g) connection - can be a little laggy but entirely usable.

Should work ... testing now:

Windows XP laptop -> S-E p990i phone -> MTN 3G
Start PuTTY, create SSH tunnel into my home router
Logs in fine
Open browser interface via https://localhost:441/ ... fine (except for a warning about the certificate not matching "localhost"!)

Yes, no problem. The difficult part is setting up ssh at all - not dependent on whether you're using 3G or ADSL or whatever.

Are you sorted yet?
