Ssid ???

Hi everyone,

I'm having some issues with my connection and did some scans of the airways and saw SSIDs I don't know, SSID = VIKING (closed), which I haven't seen before and SSID = paarl003 (open), which I've seen around before. Anybody know to whom these belongs to?

Oh, yeah, these SSIDs gets picket up scanning the Bottelary area (WC).

These are the people that live in your visinity and you can pick up their wireless broadcast. If it is closed, you need a password to get in, but if it is open anyone can connect to it. If you can track this guy down tell him to put a password on there!!! Stealing bandwith is that easy!!!!

Yeah it's possible that it's someone elses AP/Bridge/Router, will have to be someone "far" away though since I stay next to a farm and the next people close by in that direction will be about 3kms away....

My WISPs AP/Bridge/Routers on the highsites are all open, but will not get far if you can't authorize yourself on the network...

Was wondering if these might be other WISPs though.

This could well be other wisps or some people with some big@ss patches/antennas. My bet will most probably be on a WISP. Can you connect to the open SSID?

I tried, but my linksys didn't manage to show thats it connected. It's also setup to connect to my wisp automaticly, so I wasn't in the mood to go fiddle.

They obviously implement MAC level security or they are (more likely) simply relay bridges.
