Hi,

I need to buy an SSL certfiticate for a domain so that I can start building Facebook apps on it. Can you someone please tell me what, in their opinion is the best option to go with.

I have done a fair amount of reading but I don't want to cough up R600 for the wrong option.
Should one buy it through a South African ISP or could you buy it from an overseas supplier too?

Thank you.

Hi There,
There are a number of providers both in and outside of the country.
If you want to have one of the best then you can look at Thawte
They have an option to compare to other major suppliers so you can compare functionality. I must stress that they are not as cheap as the one Gambit uses.

Regards

Comodo is the cheapest.

But why not use the free Heroku hosting that you can get while creating your app on FB? See http://www.heroku.com/facebook

You get a free certificate, and free hosting. You don't need a dedicated domain for a FB app, and if you want one, you can point your domain to the Heroku site.

You have to use Git to access the app, which is ****, but other than that, its good.

I would recommend buying a Thawte Certificate, Thawte brand originated from South Africa and
it's one of the first SSL CA-s as Verisign, but affordable.

I am buying these here, because of cheaper price and easier SSL generation:

Why is it always like this, everytime you see an old thread revived, the person responsible is a new member. As is the case here, 6 hours old.

I would like to belive that the OP would have an answer after 2+ years
