Hi everyone
I host a Linux Apache server site on my ADSL line. I cannot host this with a proper hosting company as the Linux server runs my Radius Manager which all my hotspots connect to. I am now in the process of setting up SSL on the site, but the company selling me the SSL certificate says that because I do not have a static IP I could have some problems. My ISP does not offer static IP’s, so I make use of No-Ip to resolve my domain name.

Has anyone had any experience with SSL on a dynamic IP host?
I am also open to any other suggestion!

Hi Sigma, provided you own your domain name (with its own specific host name), there should be no problem. Feel free to give one of our SSL certificates a try: http://www.smartweb.co.za/ssl-certificates.php
They come with a money-back guarantee, so if things don't work out for you, you can get a refund, no questions asked.

You shouldn't have any issues with that kind of scenario. Just create the certificate for that no-ip FQDN. Alternatively, register a .co.za domain and create a CNAME record on that new domain that links to your no-ip domain name, and then use the .co.za FQDN in your certificate.

I hope your no-ip's DNS TTL is like 60 seconds, so that your clients won't have a long downtime when your IP address changes.

I'd actually suggest that you move to a different provider that offers static IP addresses.

Hey everyone

Thanks for all the assistance, I am going to go with a certificate from www.smartweb.co.za(I was on their site on Friday night, checking the prices and the online support guy was there to offer assistance without me even asking). BEST ONLINE SUPPORT I HAVE EVER HAD! I will let you guys know if this works.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Happy to hear you had such a fantastic experience :)

SSL Certs don't require a reverse DNS match, long as your domain responds to the domain name used, and the cert matches and the cert provider is listed in Trusted Root certificates or another container dependant on the provider type, you'll be good to go
