Hi there!
Just need some help choosing between 2 SSL certificates.
I require a Wildcard SSL certificate for one of my clients. So, I decided to check in with Web Crew. They have several different options that meet my requirements, but eventually I narrowed it down to 2. One is the CERTUM Commercial SSL WildCard Certificate and the other is the Comodo PositiveSSL Wildcard Certificate. Comodo has a pretty good name in security and I've installed a couple of their certificates before, but I'm unfamiliar with Certum. Both have the same specs, but Certum is around R400 cheaper. Which one do I take? Is it worth paying extra for the "Comodo" name?
Thanks!

Usually it comes down to insurance. The commercial certs will pay you out xyz $$$ if security is breached due to a bad SSL cert.

Besides that, is there anything else in particular? I mean, will there be some users who will get alerts on their PC if I use Certum (this site's SSL provider is untrusted, etc)?

It depends on the root authority / chain bundle you load as to which browsers / OS's support what.

Additionally some older systems may have issues with the cert's depending on the the hash (e.g. Windows XP only supports SHA-256 from SP3 upwards).

And if Certum has SHA-256 (which I think it does)? Then it'll be ok? You see, I don't want this to backfire for my client as it's a fairly large investment... If Certum will do the job then fine - it'll save everybody precious money. If there might be compatibility issues or the like, then I'll stick to Comodo.

If you have used comodo before then why taking risk for other certificate authority. And if price issue then I don't think there is much difference between certum wildcard ssl and Comodo PositiveSSL Wildcard Certificate. You can get low price by collecting coupons from some sites like :

I can't speak for Certum, but we use RapidSSL certs for non-EV certs (https://www.thesslstore.com/wildcardssl-certificates.aspx). The only time we go for brand certs (i.e. Symantec) is for our EVs as users are familiar with the name.

To be honest, a regular user will not know the difference (or recognise) Certum or Comodo (they will however recognise Symantec). We specifically went for RapidSSL as the name includes the "SSL" part for non-essential servers.

You might also find that (depending on the number of domains needed), that buying multiple DV-certs (at USD18 a domain) might be cheaper than a wildcard (i.e. anywhere between USD 60 - 140 for the cert).
