Does anyone know of a program that can be used to intercept the packets of a game (like guildwars, horizons or Wow), and then to encrypt them into SSL packets to be sent to a proxy server which will then send the packets onto their destination?

I'm fed up with intermittant packet loss causing my games to &^%$ up, and a friend of mine has agreed to set up a proxy server which will support SSL to try and circumvent Telscum's packet shaping.

you will need a socks proxy (if your game supports it). doubt if a game will run over an HTTP proxy.

ask your frind to install AnalogX Proxy Server, it supports the socks protocol and its small and free!!

you might have to socksify the game.

Looks like I'll have to use SocksCap. But will that enable me to encrypt the packets to my friend so that telkom can't sniff them for packet shaping?

Assuming your friends socks server supports encryption, this would work. Since the forward addr/port info is stored in the data section of the packets you're sending, which is encrypted. But telkom most likely only filter packets based on the src/dest port info stored in the header of each packet, so you could get away with it using a normal web proxy since the destination addr/port info of the packets you're sending will be your friends proxy server.

I'm going to assume that's the case for now.

But does anyone know of proxy software that will work? Horizons uses UDP for it's communications - I checked analogX but it doesn't support UDP within its socks server. alot of searching the web hasn't really turned up anything useful either (I've only started looking into proxies when I started this thread, I'm guessing I still have alot to learn ;) )

And it works, too! Best of all, my friend is a mere 20ms away from the actual game server. Thankyou very much guys, you really made my day! :)
