Got the black Cell C modem about 3 weeks ago to use for World of Warcraft gaming as my ADSL line gets stolen every 2 months, and it then takes Telkom almost 2 to replace it again
It all got off to a good start, nice stable connection and good pings (450-550) and I was happy.
Fast forward to today and I am not happy anymore... Stability has gone out the window, pings fluctuate by 500 ms, and at times it disconnects constantly (last night I tried for 30 min to reconnect, but I would just log in to WoW and it would disconnect again).
The modem also get very hot, which seems strange as I read on a thread here that heat is indicative of poor connection. I get full bars WCDMA so I don't know if that is the problem. I did however notice that when the modem starts up it shows WCDMA bottom left, but as soon as I connect it changes to HSPA+ (still full bars).
I am using the USB ports on the back of my PC so it's not power related.
How do I check signal quality? And what are good numbers?
