Awesome! Remember that Staffies only start to mature around 2 to 3 years. And they can be naughty as hell, so be prepared for that. But they are the best dogs around and you will not find a more loyal friend.

Agreed.. except that doesn't just apply to Staffies.. its for most of the Terrier breeds..

I have a Bullie and he follows me around the house, sleeps on my feet.. even tries to sit on my lap despite being too big to do so.

Hehehe, I know exactly what you mean. We let ours on the bed on Saturdays and Sundays, other than that she is happy to sleep in her bed next to me. She knows exactly when its weekend though and first thing Saturday morning she is up on the bed and happy as a pig in poop.

So you are saying that you sleep in her bed and she sleeps next to you. :confused::D

Had Bernice Jaffe round (behaviorist) this morning. She's very good and extremely helpful. IF anyone is looking for a behaviorist then I'd recommend her, she comes to your premises and works with the dogs.

She's recommended a few things:

1.) Whistle training for recall + treat when she comes back.
2.) Spray bottle for bad behavior.
3.) Slight food aggression from the Staffie, so we need to remove her bowl while eating and the give her a treat so she knows its coming back and not to get aggressive. Rinse and repeat till fixed.
4.) Introduce her to the cats (in their own room, closed off) every day until they are at ease, could take weeks.
5.) Some valerium to calm her down and stop her anxiety when we're leaving - as she gets used to the fact that we do come back, hopefully this will make her too relaxed to jump over the fence, we'll wean her off - no damaging effects apparently as some anxious dogs are placed on it for life.
6.) Enjoy this picture of my two idiots who think they can fit in one teeny tiny basket:

Hi,

An update;

Staffie is anxious when we leave home for work and she has to stay behind.

She ends up jumping a fence I put up (pool fence height) in a communal alley (shared with neighbours) and then gets stuck there for the day and annoys people. If she can't get over it she'll chew through it (depends on what takes her fancy).

How do I get her to stop this? I'm pretty sure its down to anxiety and she wont do it if we're home etc.

Thanks,

I think the dog whisperer covered this in an episode, something about not making it a big deal when you leave home, like making a fuss of the animal before hand.

A sad update from me. We can't keep her as she's not settling well with our cats / other dog :(
========================================================================

Energetic 7 month old puppy (Staffie mix breed) looking for a home.

We adopted her at 6 months from the previous owners who didn't pay her enough attention. We've been socializing her at the dog park, walking her twice a day, lead training her and taking her on hikes. We've tried all we can to give her a good home, but unfortunately she's just not a fit with our existing dog and our 2 cats.

She's good with most dogs (she gets socialized each night at a dog park). However she would do better with a bigger breed, as she is a bit dominant and boisterous with smaller breeds.

An ideal home for her would be:

1.) A household that has a large breed dog to help integrate her in to your family.
2.) A household with no cats (as she has a want to chase, but this could possibly be trained out).
3.) A household where she can join in on physical activities e.g. walks and so forth.

She is of a medium size / build and spayed.

If you know of anyone that is looking, please share. We are based in Observatory, Cape Town.

I've added link for pics:

That's massively unfortunate dude... I'm sure you will find a great home for her though, just keep looking. If I didn't have my current boy, I'd take her off your hands in an instant

staffies are very active dogs. Unfortunate you have to let her go :(. My am staff is difficult and rough but he is an awesome dog :D had to install extra gates because the little escape artist kept escaping D:

Please find her a good home sir. The other day I felt sick some a**hole abondoned their dog (i assume) on the freeway at night. I almost died dodging the animal.

I will only home her privately, no shelters. I've already informed everyone wanting to see her that a) They need to come to my premises so I can meet them and that b) I need to go to theirs so that I can see that their setup is a fit for this dog.

I've got a lady coming through tomorrow who owns a 3.5month staffie male. She says he desperately wants and needs a friend and that they've got a huge property in Tokai, so holding thumbs.

I refuse to respond to any MXIT types who appear as if they'd use the dog for fighting, as thats never going to happen.

Great to hear...

I hope you find her the home she needs, and where the people will love her the way she deserves.
