Stage 1 loadshedding from 9am Monday

Till Friday ? That means 9 hours out for me, 2 * 4.5 hours. Stage 2.

That is enough to cause trouble with freezers and fridges, last time this happened my freezer defrosted, even though it is a Bosch A+.

Will have to rig up the UPS again, but it won't run for 9 hours.

You wouldn't be out for 9 hours in one go...

A Coleman Extreme/Römer/Tentco cooler box with decent ice thrown in at the top can keep stuff frozen for days.

Just taking the camping experience with load shedding to the next level with a decent cooler box.

Just saying.
 
All this talk about Kelvin makes me wonder about the Power station in PTA West, Is it so far gone that they can't fire it up again?

No, it is in 2 sessions, but there is not enough time for everything to recharge in between.

Also, the continuous switching causes equipment failures, in December we had a 24 hour session.

Yeah, but my freezer is at -22C, because I tend to keep stuff for longer periods.

If the temperatures go to -7C or -10C, the stuff just will not keep.

I do monitor the temperatures, they immediately start creeping up when there is loadshedding, 9 hours per day is just too much.

Steenbras only has the capacity for about 5 hours of 'peaking' power. If Eskom are on Stage 2 all day and night, that would never provide time to refill the pumped storage. Not sure how it would work, and its not a magic solution.

What do you use? I've been trying to explain the dangers of protracted blackouts wrt to food safety to our local ward councillor.

Waste my time? Our ward councillor is a smart guy but right now he's concentrating solely on the effect the protracted shedding has on personal security, especially for small holdings and the rural areas of his ward. Food safety impacts more people.

i meant wasting your time trying to get anything out of a ward Councillor that doesn't personally benefit them, maybe yours is the exception i guess.
 
Y'all need to push for how Cape town does it, 2hrs per shedding. So you still get shed 4hrs but at least there is a breather between them
