Hi

I have recently bought a Ricoh SG2100n geljet printer and have manually setup the IP address and subnet mask. The printer is directly connected to my Huawei B315 router. Is it possible for this printer to act as a stand alone network printer or does my PC always have to be on to act as the print server? Does anyone know how to set this up as stand alone if possible? I'd like to print to it over the wireless network but am unsure how this is done if it is even possible.

Thanks in advance

Sup man,

Static or DHCP IP for the printer? Plug the printer with lan cable into the Router and try to ping it from your laptop. If you can ping it you should be able to print to it via Wifi

(Make sure the IP, Subnet and Gateway is similar to what you have on your laptop when connected)

If it has it's own IP...then it's stand alone.

I mean is this question for real? How did you connect to it? Through the network right...so then you can do the same on every other device.

So you do the exact same thing you did the first time on every other device.

If you connected it with USB, then you were doing it wrong in the first place.

Thanks for the response, the IP is static and is in the same grouping as my routers IP, i.e., the router is 10.0.0.2 and the printer is 10.0.0.4 (both with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0). I have not tried to ping it wirelessly but did print over the wired network from my PC.

Does that printer even support wifi?

edit: doesn't look like it, so I don't know what you're trying to achieve by pinging it "wirelessly"

Hi
It doesn't natively support wifi but should be able to ping it if connected to the same network even if the laptop is connected wirelessly.

Umm, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Its not working even though it's got a static IP and is hardwired to my router. Is there something I'm missing to get it to work on its own (besides plugging it in and setting up an IP)? Can this printer even work on its own (when printing from my PC, a very primitive printer GUI (installed from supplied driver disc) comes up that identifies the printer by its IP and then prints to it). I have tried the Ricoh app, it doesn't find the printer either.

All you need is a fixed IP. If you can print from your pc, theoretically you can print from any device connected to the same network.

You can also try setting it up via Google Cloud Print.

Some manufacturers' app implementations are not as solid as others or they support limited devices and functionalities.

You have to make sure the static ip you give to the printer isn't in the dhcp pool of IP addresses the router is going to give out. Else you will get an IP conflict and it won't work.

Home router usually start giving out IPs at the bottom. So I would make the printer ip something like 10.0.0.200. Subnet 255.255.255.0. Default Gateway = router ip. Then connect it with a lan cable to the router. You will then be able to access the printer from any device on the network, be it via lan cables or wifi.

Hi all
Thanks for all the help, its working now. I changed the IP to a much higher number as suggested and also added the default gateway to that of my router. The app works now so I can print from my phone over wifi.

Thanks again!
