Stand-alone VDSL

Good day everyone

I recently moved to an area where I live quite close to the exchange about 800m and VDSL is available.
I already have a Tp-Link W8970 that works quite nicely, the only problem is the fact that it cannot support VDSL

What would be the cheapest way to become VDSL compliant? I'm yet to find a standalone VDSL modem that's only a modem and then simply connecting via the WAN port on the W8970 in bridge mode.

Otherwise, what is the cheapest VDSL modem available on the market today?

You won't find a stand-alone home VDSL router (to the best of my knowledge, maybe someone knows of one).
Here is one for R999 but only 100Mbps ethernet ports.
This one is R1088 with gigabit Ethernet and an EWAN port, so if you ever get fiber you can use it.

Bryn will probably recommend you stay away from Zyxel due to the interface.

I have one of these while I wait for Fibre. D-Link Wireless N DSL-224. Currently R694 at makro online. Check elsewhere as well. I have a 20Mbps VDSL connection.

You can opt to run ADSL at 20mbps for now. A number of people on the forum are doing that.

I have the Billion Bipac 8800NXL. Got it for R900. It's Fibre ready as well. See that stock is a problem at most online shops. Give Tarsus a call and check stock levels and dealers.

You could also try the TP-Link TD-W9977. That's going for R639 at Loot. Not sure how good it is, however all you need is the modem. You could put in into bridge mode and serve up WiFi via your existing device.

I'd suggest trying ADSL at 20mbps and decide from there. Ultimately it's the ISP and exchange congestion that plays the critical role.

I'd take VDSL2 if I could as it has a more stable sync than ADSL2+ and the extra 1Mbps upload would help a lot, you want at least 10% upload speed of the download speed for packet acknowledgement. VDSL also has lower overheads.
