Standard Bank buys SnapScan maker, Firepay

Great product. Use it dozens of times a week.
Hope the FirePay team had a good exit. Anyone have any details on the exit?

Zapper seems to be dominating the market. Both are very useful :)

Hardly see zapper anywhere.
I think I have 4 transactions on my zapper history vs thousands on SnapScan...

I have used zapper a lot in the last 6 months, never used snapscan in the last 3 years

I assume the people who don't use SnapScan live out in the technological backwaters of Gauteng and KZN.
In the Silicon Cape, SnapScan rules supreme

You can't use SnapScan with a rooted phone?

Nope, compromises their security.

What if my phone is rooted?

Unfortunately, our security auditors have decided that the risks associated with rooted phones are too great for us to allow our app to be used on these devices. Rooted phones are considered unsafe because the security measures put in place (for example, protecting apps from accessing each other's data) can be compromised.

We realise that informed users can use rooted phones in a safe way, but in order to preserve the security of all SnapScan users and merchants we cannot make exceptions for individual users.

I am running Snapscan rooted. They just give a warning when you sign up that it might compromise security.

OK, that's relatively new then, when I tried about a year ago it wouldn't allow me to use it at all

Well that sucks since Zapper is located in the Silicon Cape and Standard Bank here in the backwater Gauteng...

I see Zapper more and more from the GPS pop ups to alert you regarding vendors.

But it's never a place that I'm going to.

Zapper is awesome for splitting a bill with friend though.

As for SnapScan I always thought Standard Bank owned and operated it.

I haven't seen anyone in KZN using snap scan. I use Zapper and only see Zapper used everywhere. Havent come across anyone using snap scan here.
