Weird, per NCA, they should not be lending to people who cannot afford to.

Does this mean they will stop sending me communication to increase my credit card limit?
Nope, they know exactly who to milk.

Ah well, sorry for those who wanted to get some extra credit on their credit cards or additional loans to buy food for longer. Welcome to the struggling masses. Equality achieved.

“Demand is outstripping supply. Absolutely. You are definitely seeing it in the unsecured lending space, from personal loans to credit cards to overdrafts,” he told Business Day TV.

This is happening across the banking industry, with FirstRand’s peers also seeing strong demand for credit cards, personal loans, and overdrafts.

However, this increased demand is not met by more supply from banks as consumers cannot afford more debt, and banks are unwilling to take on riskier customers.

“Demand is very high for these facilities, but approval rates are very low. Maybe around two in ten people are being approved for these products,” Pullinger said.

He explained that people are simply failing to pass the affordability test for new credit facilities and cannot take on the burden of additional debt in the current environment.
So much this!!!

The clients are out there, but you can't help them. Plain and simple.
This is the first article I see where they mention exactly what the trend is atm regarding potential clients in the unsecured credit market.

1-2 out of 10 pass the affordability study to be granted credit.
The market is BAD. People just have way too much debt. Personally, we have a 14% success rate over the past 3 months. 14% of all the people who applied for credit were successful. And by that I mean they were successful with their application for AN amount of credit, not necessarily the amount they were looking for...

Will be interesting to see what the impact of these austerity measures are on the current impairment rates

So now all those gangstas driving around in X5s and teenyboppers in Golf GTIs will need to go back to dikwiel bicycles?

Banks acting like they have ANY social responsibility...pffft...that ship has sailed many moons ago.

But now banks are starting to feel it on their bottom line...debts are simply not paid back and the banks are losing money hand over fist in that sector.

The only people making a killing are the micro-lenders. Their rates are so insane, that they can afford all those that do not pay.
