I changed my cell phone number on my Std Bank internet banking profile.
But now I am not receiving the SMS one time passwords to my new number.
I can receive and send normal SMS but just don`t receive the STD Bank passwords.
I phoned the STD Bank helpline and they said that every thing is fine on their side-number is correct, etc.
They reckon it is a service provider problem and I must contact MTN.
Anyone had this problem before?

AI had the same problem and eventually told them to shove the service where they cannot put it. Apparently you have to go to your brach the enable the modified profile.

If the cell number works from another phone, how can it be a service provider problem if they send that message to the changed number? Just a question?

Good luck with that.

I think they are bulls*tting you, check on your profile if the number is correct, also some systems have problems with numbers that have been ported to a different network

I love the way this is not a bank problem.

I mean, one of the bank's clients is having a problem with a bank implemented security feature, but, it's not the bank's fault.

Pfffffft.

Change to E-mail request on the website.
(Hopefully it won't send a SMS request to change)

i phoned and had to log in via another link on the internet banking page, then you get to re-edit your details and save.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I am going to go to my branch, and the first thing I am going to do is make sure that the correct cell number is on their system.

Had this once before where the 1time password wouldn't come through because I only had GSM signal (no concurrent connections). Soon as 3G coverage was back up & running, the problem went away.

Perhaps just something to check?

that is the problem with SMS OTPs. And also let's not forget that the SMS is sent in clear text, so if I know your phone number I can divert that SMS and get ur OTP.

there is a solution to this: an application that runs on your mobile and generates your OTPs offline. a google on fireid will show you how this solution works.
