standard fibre install in SA

I realise there's probably a post on this but I don't think there's many people who've been through so many hoops.

• order fibre from telkom by signing and completing a contract.
• wait for 1 week while they do a credit check (even though i'm an existing customer, of 20+ years)
• wait another week for technicians to visit and do the install. The technicians see that they can't just pull the fibre along the existing copper route and hand the entire job over to contractors.
• wait 3 weeks for contractors to show up and dig a hole which I could have done myself. Pull fibre through the new route into the house, to exactly where I asked.
• wait another week for another group of contractors to come and splice the cables to the street junction and inside the house. The contractors don't show up on the day they're appointed to.
• The contractors decide to show up 2 days later and splice the fibre. The contractors say I won't be able to use the net until another technician from telkom comes out.
• I lose my mind. I threaten telkom excessively and decide to act on those threats. I go to jail. I have fibre-to-the-jail.

....And that's how you get fibre.

Does anyone know if these splicing guys can finalise my connection or whether i can just call into telkom technical support to conclude this madness. I have my own routers and equipement already. fibre-to-copper box is being set up currently.

Thanks Dretastic. I'm currently posting this message from the IT room in Pollsmoor. This internet is faster and more stable than mine. If i bribe the guard he'll let me watch 4k netflix.

In reality, my line is connected - I'll post some screenshots of speed tests when I'm home later on. If everything is working. Curious to see how they bill me this month.

Here's some quick tests i did this morning. Honestly didn't think South Africa would get to this point.
Using Telkom capped account.

These tests were done using a vox fat pipe promo account (200GB+unlimited night surfer). Line runs at full speed locally. Haven't checked international speeds yet. But it's likely similar to my first post.

Both the Telkom and Vox account are capped at 200GB however both have additional bandwidth after hours.

The ratio on the line is 2:1. i.e. upload speed is half the download speed.

The line is running at 100mbps/50mbps using either account. Pings to cpt base servers are 3-5ms and pings to jhb servers at 25-27ms

Let me know if you have any other questions. The connection is amazing, and super stable.
