Hi Forum,

Oh my sack I just don't believe my luck :(
I got my DS installed over the weekend and all was running smoothly.
Last night the Hard drive started making those wonderful ticking noises :D

This morning I booted up and wanted to schedule some programs for tonight.
Low and behold it tells me I need a working hard drive bla bla bla , please contact Multichoice.

Can anyone tell me what they would end up charging for the old school SD PVR.
I am not interested in getting an HD PVR anytime soon, so I do need to get this one working again.

I've read some articles about swopping the HD out. The warranty is obviously void thereafter.
Does any one have that handy PDF that was created for this very issue.

Also, is it risky doing the swopout? Should I rather go to Multichoice.
I don't mind paying for a HD swop the legit way, just wanna know how much.

I still have that PDF available. I can mail it to you if you want it. You might just have difficulty in getting an IDE HDD for this action, but there were posts where a SATA-IDE converter was succesfully used.

Regarding the swop-out, it should be in the region of R350.00 at Multichoice.

Does it have decoder care? If not, they usually swap it out for a refurbished unit for around R400 iirc.

if the seals etc are still in tact, i think the swap out ( assuming no dcc) is about R400 or so

yep. mine was R342 last time.

not bad for a refurbished unit with a 3 month warranty.
