Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a Star Filter (4/8X), and was wondering if you guys had any specific recommendations regarding brands or models. I am looking for a 77mm filter. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

But star filters make pictures look so tacky and ugly! D:

Cokin filter holder and filters are my recommendation since they're versatile. Don't think I've ever seen any starburst screw-ins locally.

mmm, yeah, I do agree on the tacky part, if over-done, but once in a while, it is nice esp considering most of the photography that I do (clubs and other dingy areas) where often the lighting is quite ****, so it would help to be able to spice things up a bit when required...

So far, it looks like the Tiffen star filters seem to be tops (and not suprisingly cost by far the most), though I really dont know how much of that is marketing, and how much of it is actual quality...

I am not really worried about local availability... am more than happy ordering online. Now just to decide which one to get.

I have a 52mm star filter from the USSR (am sure that it is quite a bit older than I am), but all my lenses are bigger than 52mm, so I never get to use it...

If anybody does have hands-on experience, please share... ;)

The Cokin one I have is plastic and not particularly thick. It adds a bit of haze to photos in addition to the starburst effect, though this is primarily noticeable if using it in scenes that are already quite bright as opposed to catch stage lighting or lights on a christmas tree, say.
