Star Citizen

Feature completion was mentioned in passing to the media at CitizenCon 2023 (I think). Yeah,

SQUADRON 42

I HELD THE LINE

We are excited to announce that Squadron 42 is now feature complete!

As we move into the polishing phase, we’re fully focused on optimizing and fine-tuning all aspects of the gameplay experience to deliver an unprecedented cinematic adventure. To celebrate this milestone, we have gathered our core development leadership from around the globe to share what this means.

Thank you for your continued support of Squadron 42.

The video in the link is dated October 23, 2023. Citizen Con was held on the 21st and 22nd. There is nothing indicated on the game's progress tracker, though CIG did do away with roadmaps (it was brought back). On the progress tracker that is dated Sep 10, 2025, there are still active team deliverables that run in parallel. There is still work to be done, and roadmaps that are public aren't an accurate representation. I don't like roadmaps.

Yes, the game will be ready when it is ready, or canned.

I do hope that the game is delivered. I read their EULA, and both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are online games.

  • C. Pre-Releases (Alpha/Beta Testing)

If you download a Pre-Release Game as defined in Sec VI. of our Terms of Service, the specific rules set forth in that section regarding Beta Testing will apply and govern your use of any such Pre-Release Game. Without limiting any of the RSII Terms, you specifically acknowledge and agree that you understand the nature of such Alpha or Beta testing, (i.e. that you may experience bugs, crashes, and the like, or that the Pre-Release Games may be changed or redesigned subsequently). Nothing contained in the foregoing shall be considered a breach by RSII of any of the RSII Terms or a failure of RSII to deliver the Game.

For the avoidance of doubt, in consideration of CIG’s good faith efforts to develop, produce, and deliver the Game with the funds raised, you agree that any deposit amounts applied against the Game Cost as described above shall be non-refundable regardless of whether or not CIG is able to complete and deliver the Game. In the unlikely event that CIG is not able to deliver the Game, CIG agrees to post an audited cost accounting on its website to fully explain the use of the deposits for the Game Cost. In consideration of the promises by CIG hereunder, you agree to irrevocably waive any claim for refund of any deposit amount that has been used for the Game Cost in accordance with the above.

Good times.

So much cash and still can't get servers working.

Begs the question as to how much of that cash goes on game development.

But if anything shows there are a lot of people with an inverse relationship between the amount of cash they have, versus the number of properly functioning brain cells, this game is it.

Hey there fellow myBB users!

Any star citizen backers out there? I'm looking at setting up a decent Joburg group of players to arrange some events as soon as the dog-fighting beta is released, anyone out there besides me?
Are we there yet?

All wasted paying celebs to do VO for Squadron 42.

Star Citizen Dev Says Squadron 42 Is Now Fully Playable, Is Over 40 Hours in Length, and Is Still on Track for 2026 Release Date

Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has told fans that the Mark Hamill-fronted single-player space adventure Squadron 42 is still on track for a 2026 release date — and not to expect “a long, drawn-out marketing campaign” beforehand.

Founder and CEO Chris Roberts wrote in a blog post that CIG is focusing on quality and polish as it moves toward an internal beta milestone and, eventually, a full release for Squadron 42 at some point next year.

“We’re confident in the direction the game is headed and are fully focused on delivering,” Roberts said. “We know many of you are eager to play, and we’re looking forward to putting it in your hands. We don’t plan on a long, drawn-out marketing campaign as we’ve already done our share of trailers and gameplay previews. When it’s time, you (and the rest of the gaming world) will hear a lot more from us.”

From the blog:

SQUADRON 42

On the Squadron 42 front, our focus throughout 2025 was to build on the progress of 2024 and what we showed at last year’s CitizenCon by bringing the game to content complete and closing out remaining core tasks in preparation for Beta.

All chapters are now fully playable from beginning to end, and we’ve been playing through the game ourselves regularly. Squadron 42 is a large game, over forty hours in length, and it’s becoming increasingly clear how special it will be once the remaining polish, optimization, and bug fixing is complete.

A big part of what makes this possible is the technology we’ve built at CIG over many years. The ability to move seamlessly from on foot, into a vehicle you can fly and move around inside, down to a planet or across star systems, all without loading screens, creates a level of immersion that’s very difficult to replicate. That combination of close-up interaction and galactic scale is at the core of what will make Squadron 42 so unique.

Equally important is the quality of the content itself. From writing and performance capture to characters, environments, ships, lighting, sound, cinematics, and design, the level of care across the entire game is something I’m incredibly proud of. Combined with deeply interactive systems, it creates an experience that pulls you into the world and keeps you there.

By this time it is very hard to trust the news being broadcast by CIG. I would like this game to come out, and it has been VERY long in development. Not as long as Star Citizen, but Squadron 42 is now a promise made over and over again.

Will they release in 2026? Are they willing to go up against some titan releases like GTA 6? It is also still possible that GTA could be pushed into 2027... Everyone is postponing, polishing, and adding detail.

All that said, I do hope that Squadron 42 is a good game, and that it will actually release.

Wake me up when I can finally claim my 2015 SQ42 pledge.

These are normal CIG updates, but their promise to deliver the game is still dated 2026. Either this is them carrying on as usual, or they are hyping the game.

The release won't be soon. It would launch, most likely, at CitizenCon. The question is, in which year?

well at least they did not make a joke about the launch year of SQ42,
so sure they are still planning to make it happen this year.
"Fake" vehicle from few years back is coming to the game SoonTM

remind me why its a scam again?
oh wait i don't care.
But just enough care to type kak out and click reply.

One would have thought if you realy don't care you would say nothing at all - after all that is the real not care.

however, not like you did there with hey my opinion matters and I do care

/facepalm
