Star Citizen

The ship you get at release depends on the package you bought. Many of them are already flyable and being tested in the alpha. $45 gets you a basic starter. Bigger ships tend to be more expensive, but that doesn't necessarily give you an advantage, just a different play style. I might buy a multi-crew ship now where four people can play together, or I can start with a basic ship and earn my way to a bigger one in game.

Point is, you spend as much as you choose to. The people that have dropped a lot of cash did so because they want to support the development of the game, not because of a perceived advantage (although some may have had this in mind, I'll admit).

No the game isn't finished. But the developers are not trying to claim that it is. The items they sell now are for funding the continued development of the game. Every item in the shop has this disclaimer next to it: "The game is currently in alpha version. It will be constantly expanded as we move toward the completed game."

Anything else?

Even if the game would flop, and there is no chance of that, I still got more than my moneys worth also. Just getting that extra thing added on each update is such a huge bonus. You will only understand this if you are into games like these and if you love buying Alpha versions of games and to see them grow.

That disclaimer is exactly what I worry about. Another question - what is the normal price of a game released in the USA?

saa044 - then you are exactly the target audience for funding this "game".

Question to both of you - when the game is finally released; what do you think it will retail for?

Sorry, I missed this comment in bold. Yes, that is the point. You choose to spend as much as you want to. Which is something you still have not answered. To refresh - my question was how much would you might spend on the "other stuff" right now if you didn't earn it " in game"?

Like I said, I bought the game for $45 back in 2012. Exactly how much I've spent is quite frankly nobody's business. Don't understand what you mean by "how much I might spend".

We don't have to guess how much the game retails for, we know already. For $45 you get either the SP or MMO games separately, while $60 gets you the whole thing. That's pretty standard pricing and a good deal if you get both, considering it's two games in one.

Yeah I think they will keep pricing the same. But Splinter this is a awesome game if you are into space sims and such. Me and Herr_Koos are old time Wing Commander enthusiasts, Chris Roberts created those games also, so he has a good track record. Based on that this strengthens our faith in Star Citizen that it will see the light of day.

Exactly. Besides, it's not like we can't see where our money is going. I've been in the alpha most nights for the past few weeks, playing with folks from all over the world, interacting with the devs, hunting down bugs and helping to get them fixed.

What many people struggle to wrap their minds arround is that this proper early access. It's not some late game beta where you invite a few folks to play a nearly finished game. It's rough, buggy and unfinished, but I've seen the game grow from an idea into something that's fun and playable, even though it has a long way to go. It's been a really cool experience.

Koos can you please explain coupled and decoupled.

Sorry man, assumed you knew about that.

OK, so coupled flight means you ship always moves in the direction the nose is pointed. This is basically airplane flight, but in space. You give input and the flight computer decides how to apply power to the thrusters to best execute the maneuver.

De-coupled flight is exactly what is says: It decouples the direction of your flight from the orientation of your ship. Notice that when I hit decoupled, I can turn my nose though 180 degrees, but my ship is still traveling along the original vector. I can then also strafe in any direction by applying thruster power; up, down, left right, etc. This is of course only possible in space where I don't need aerodynamics to fly.

For a better demo of this from an external view, check out the very first vid on my channel.

When I got my stick, I hit decoupled by mistake while playing in vandal swarm lol. I was getting so annoyed until I realized my mistake. Koos, Kensei2605 and others please add saa044/saa045 to your friends list if you want, then we can all fly together some time maybe.

Will do :)

Already done, we had a Skype chat the other day if you recall.

Yeah, but I stuffed up something on my end and lost all my contacts. Your game name again? maybe I must add it from my side. It looks like it must come from both sides. So your game name also please Kensei2605. :)

Whiplash-1. The other person doesn't need to accept, as soon as you add them, they appear on your friends list.

I just started at our work on my server there. IF it gets done today I will drive through, it is still estimating file size at this point though.

EDIT: Nope, 1 day 1 hour left lol.
