Star Citizen

Okay problem resolved lol nothing to do with game though. I had it installed on my game drive but rsi downloaded 2.4 to my ssd that only runs my windows and programs so I was trying to start the old game the whole time.

HAHAHA! Glad you got it sorted. Yes, the game tries to install to C:\Program Files by default, as most things do these days.

Oh by the way, 2.4 is really, really, cool, in case I hadn't mentioned it before.

So far I have: rebooted a few comm arrays, got myself a security guard gig at Kareah, loitered around the station for 10 minutes and earned some easy cash when no criminals showed up, gave a random person a lift from Covalex back to Olisar, responded to a distress call from a few guys who ran into a mass of pirates at one of the comm arrays (turns out they were flying a Sabre and a Hornet, and I saved their butts in an Aurora - oh the delicious irony :D), got my ship fixed up and re-armed at one of the CryAstro repair stations, raged at CryAstro over their ridiculous prices, bought myself a new shirt and pants at Casaba, and now have a balance of around 7k aUEC, up from the initial 2750.

Best thing is, next time I log in, the game will remember all of this!

Eish not sure how I am going to earn UEC, I have nothing at the moment according to my account. Will be tricky to make some cash I reckon.

Alpha UEC is a test currency. Everyone gets 2750 to start with.

They are working on including actual UEC into the alpha. Note however that you don't really need any starting cash to do basic missions and earn some credits.

Ahh ok that is good news

This update did not do me good. On 2.3 I could run at 720P at high settings quite nicely. Now the game is all stuttery. I must add that my HDD is loading constantly, just a normal HDD. Might be that. I have the option now to upgrade to a R9 380 GPU by trading in my Gihabyte GTX 760 and paying in R1300, now I almost want to do it.

2.4's performance hasn't been great, to be honest. Thing is though, it's server side, not your PC, that is the main issue. Case in point: I already have a 4GB R9 380 (it's a lovely card btw, but maybe hang on for Polaris / Vega coming later this year). It runs at full blast in Arena Commander or the hangar, but rarely exceeds 30% or so utilization in Crusader. Hence, my PC is not the bottleneck. Using the offline hack, I get 50-60fps in Crusader easily.

If you are lucky enough to load into a nearly empty server, performance is pretty good. As more people join and spawn more ships, or perform actions that require lots of netcode traffic, fps starts dropping dramatically.

This is a known issue and is all part of the development and optimization process. I've found that if you can manage to connect earlier in the day before the guys in the US join, things are generally better.

We'll just have to wait this out until the situation improves.

Good point, I will test it in arena commander a bit to see what happens.

There you go then. :D

If all goes well we will have fps as smooth as Arena Commader in the Universe part someday.

Yeah skimmed through the changes to 2.4 and now you confirmed it. Cant wait hope I can get some time to play this week.

I'm going to try and get some playtime with my boet later tonight. He only has a 4M line, so it took him two days to download the update :p

Still running R9 280x was curious at what res you guys are running. Currently Im doing 1080p on high you guys recon I drop to 720 ?

I normally do 1680x1050 on Medium. Very little visual difference between the setting, to be honest. Lower res won't help you in Crusader since the graphics aren't the bottleneck, but you can play around with setting and see what works best.

Okay but 50 - 60 fps is possible currently ?

Had a pretty good 90 minute session with my brother last night, introducing him to the 2.4 updates. FPS was still quite crappy, but it was very stable and we loaded into the same instance with no issues.

Once the framerate improves a bit, this is going to be an absolute blast to play.

I did not try a live session again, mostly went into Arena commander and jammed there. Will try again tonight maybe and see.
