We have a clothes drying rack. The Mrs really likes it and I cannot find a replacement. As such this has now become the weeks mission.

One of the Star Knobs (hit me with your best jokes) has had its thread worn off / down.

Anyone know where I can get a M8 (8mm diameter) 100mm star knob in RSA? Preferable order online and deliver? (photo attached) Tried some thread tape to see if that would be enough to fill the gap.

Maybe buy some m8 thread bolt and cut down to size. As to how you connect to the plastic knob, I dont know.

I would get a piece of threaded rod, cut it to size, run a tap over it to clean up the threads and press it back into the star knob piece with some epoxy. It looks like it just presses in and probably has some splines to make it cut into the plastic bit of the knob.

Do have a basic tap & die set, you could try to clean the threads using that?
Thanks, considered this but the actual thread has been worn away not cross threaded.

What you are looking for is a clamping knob..

I don't think you are easily going to find one off the shelf at your length.. you do get these ones, where you can thread a threaded rod into and make the length you need.. can only find this one to buy from rs components, minimum of 10 per order though..

If you can find one or don't mind buying spares, this is your best bet along with a length of threaded rod and some thread lock, to help lock the thread in the clamping knob and maybe a nut tightened up against the clamping knob as well..

You also then want to grind down the threads to match the thread less portion of the bolt, as it looks like there is something pivoting on that section, which the threads could cut into and damage..

At the same time, did you look at what caused the thread to get damaged in the first place..?
