Star Trek television reboot boldy goes on the hunt for a female leader

The hunt is underway for a female Captain Kirk to take the helm of the new Star Trek television series.

The show's producer Bryan Fuller has revealed the highly anticipated television reboot of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Discovery, will focus on a starship on the edge of explored space under the command of a young woman.

The as-yet-uncast leader – whose name is under wraps – will be the second female commanding officer to lead a Star Trek television series, following Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew.
