I would like to watch some Star Trek, but there are a lot of different series. Should one start with TOS or something else?

I don't want to be confused or miss out, but at the same time I don't want to be bored.

Chronologically

The Original Series
The Next Generation
Deep Space Nine
Voyager
Enterprise

Watch them in the order that they were made.

If you watch in StarDate order the Original Series will look pretty amature after Enterprise.

Start with The Next Generation, it's the best one anyway. It's still real Star Trek, unlike the stuff made after Gene Roddenberry died (DS9 and beyond), but at the same time modern unlike the original which does show its age by now. The original looks like a show from the 60's - I still like it because I'm a fan but for someone new it would likely be disappointing. DS9 is very boring before season 3, then gets good. Voyager is kind of meh - it has its charms but most people didn't like it, only the first and last seasons are good. Enterprise is crap from the word go. It's about a ship and captain that was suddenly retconned into the universe before any of the others, and mysteriously not mentioned in the other series even though they are set much later. It's also more like the latest movie in style. And the finale is possibly the worst Star Trek episode in history. Apart maybe from that Voyaher one where Janeway and Paris "evolve" into telepathic crocodiles from travelling too fast in a shuttle :wtf:

What about the 9 odd feature films.Didn't Picard become Borged in the series but the aftermath was told in the movie?

Yes, the movies tie in with the series, but I thought OP was only referring to the series. There are 11 movies, but everything after First Contact is just terrible. (That's the Borg one, the 8th movie).

The best movies for me are The Wrath of Khan and Generations, but watch them in order if you're going to.

Not exactly the Order it was shown but I suggest you watch it in this order Also I added my notes for you, though i tried not to spoil anything if you haven't watched

The Original Series (season 1-3)- It was cool but don't expect great special effects - but this is where the Shatner style of acting began :D - series was always on the edge of being cancelled so don't expect any proper finale
- The Animated Series -(Season 1-2) though you can skip this doesn't really fit in properly any way but if you want to go full house you might as well :)
- Star Trek:The Motion Picture - this royally sucked its quite slow really can see they followed the 2001 space Odyssey look and feel - but didn't work
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - The best movie of all and I'm not just saying this Khans an Indian :D
- Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - Okay not great though, but watchable
- Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - More Comedic in tone
- Star Trek V: The final Frontier - This one sucked, its a good movie in terms of action etc, but just oesnt fit in well
- Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - A really good movie, can see it was meant as a Goodbye for the old cast - also where I got my Location Idea for my MYBB profile from
- Star Trek: The next Generation(Season 1-5) - Good series much better special effects, and longer drawn out stories
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 1) - This was really good though suffers if you compare to TNG, be prepared for a little espionage type episodes and some confusing but late aha moments
- Star Trek: The next Generation(Season 6)
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 2)
- Star Trek: The next Generation(Season 7)- The finale sort of explains stuff but a bit confusing
- Star Trek Generations - Ok Movie though really not the caliber of the TV series, and it was meant as a link between TOS and TNG but as a fan it did neither crew justice more of a disservice to TOS
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 3)
- Star Trek: Voyager (Season 1) - A very Odd (and not in a bad way) series for a trek universe but I really enjoyed it
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 4)
- Star Trek: Voyager (Season 2)
- Star Trek: First Contact - Best movie in the TNG line
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 5)
- Star Trek: Voyager (Season 3)
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 6)
- Star Trek: Voyager (Season 4)
- Star Trek: Insurrection - More of a ehh movie watchable but ehh
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 7) - the Finale well lets say it leaves alot open endd
- Star Trek: Voyager (Season 5 -7) - Rally nice Finale
- Star Trek: Nemesis - they tried to redo wrath of khan for TNG , but failed miserably watch it but dont let it ruin the series for you

- Enterprise (Season 1 - 4) Although in universe Timeline this comes before TOS Or the recent Movie a lot of stuff explained in this series relates to the all the other series so might as well watch after Nemesis.

- Star trek 2009 movie - again in universe before TOS, due to the time travel / parallel universe element as well as some of the 'lines' in the movie they reference it would be best if you watch it after everything else including Enterprise.

Yes I'm Trekkie :D

Def watch them in order. I"ve got every one of them including all films. You can watch them over and and over. Granted the original didnt have great special effects but the story lines were all great, and the skirts that the woman wore in those days...bordering on porn :)

Depends how old school you want to go. If you don't mind the korn that comes with TOS... go for it. Else I would suggest go with TNG followed by the rest.

However there are better space opera like FireFly and BSG imho...

Looks like netflix has them all. I guess I know what I'm doing today…

Thanks everyone I think I'm going to start with TOS and then come back to this thread for reference. I'm currently watching Firefly and enjoying it, that made me want to watch Star Trek.

Fan of STNG & Enterprise as well as the movies, did not really enjoy the others.

Maybe have a look at Babylon 5 as well, still my favourite sci-fi series.
