Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the 3D theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace now has an official release date -- February 10, 2012! Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a "galaxy far, far away," Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga's most stunning and spectacular sequences -- from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi.

That said I wanna see that "bigger fish" scene in 3D.
 
until han shoots first again lucas can stfu and die, he has pissed all over his own creation.... hope this tanks.

I don't get it...we've all SEEN this movie before, 3D isn't going to make it a better movie?

Agreed...

Along with a few concerns:

1) The "epicness" of the pod race might be it's undoing in 3D. It is my experience that fast moving scenery makes for bad 3D... they don't come much faster than the pod race.
2) Again... counter intuitively, the lightsaber duels might be filled with fail because they're so fast paced instead of being made to be more exciting.
3) The high contrast of the ships in space will probably make for the best 3D effects. Slow moving objects against a high contrast background means the polarization will work best.
4) The invasion scene will look good too... again, slow moving scenery with high contrast colours.
5) The underwater scenes will look really good. Dark background, slow moving, high contrast characters.

I'm convinced that this is one of the reasons Avatar employed the colour scheme it did... to get the most contrast... and thus get the most out of the 3Dnessness. This is also the reason why animated movies work so much better! Star Wars episode 1 is practically an animated movie because of all the CGI, but I can't help thinking that the fast moving scenes will be pretty crusty in 3D.

Just more cheapass franchise-milking gimmickry from George Lucas.

He'd better name the new versions something new, like:

Episode IV: 3D Wars: A New Effect
Episode V: The Marketing Gimmick Strikes Back
Episove VI: Return of the 1950's Technology

Episode I: The Phantom Dimension
Episode II: Attack of the Stoopid Glasses
Episode III: Cash-in of the Sith
 
I think it'll be a shyte rendition in 3D. How can it be true 3D if it wasn't shot in 3D? It'll look fake most likely, and probably have a very "layered" look to it.
