I just found another reason never to use EA's new origin system, they have no preorders for South Africa for Star Wars Old Republic.

There are enough reasons not to use it already:

1. It's ****
2. It's run by EA, the favourite game publisher of Darth Vader, Josef Goebbels, Skeletor and Malema.
3. We already have to muck about with Steam to get some games to run
4. 1.

Moved to Ireland about 4 months ago. Got my preorder in today at Gamestop :D Splurging on the collectors edition....ludicrously expensive but I've always been a bit of a Star Wars fan and am so freaking excited atm :P

Could be a great game, pity I'll be Stat-hunting with Battlefield 3 for the next 2 years (if it's as good as BF2 was)

I've really enjoyed the Vids tho....can't actually wait to see it fer realz

Apparently they'll only be launching in the EU & US initially on the announced release date, and then rolling out to the rest of the world sometime later. I'm guessing they don't want to flip the switch on the game, only to have the servers melt as 1500000000000000000000000 level 1 jedi suddenly pop into life....

Amazon wont deliver it to s.a adress , Lucky i got family in canada so i got them to buy me the pre-order and email me the key and just post me the physical game when it gets released. My guess is once you regestered your pre-order key you get to download the client , In september they will be having beta weekends where all pre-order clients can play and get early access before the game goes live. Hopefully they wont be blocking our ip's, but theres always ways around that too.

From what I have read, the reason that they have limited the pre-orders is to avoid the mad rush on the servers that big MMOs get at launch. They want to spread it out to avoid server problems and to help avoid the situation where you land up with 100 other people waiting for a single creature to spawn so that you can finish a quest.

Even the pre-orders are going to be spread out. I think the CE gets in a week before, DE 5 days and SE 3 days before launch. Then after launch day it will be rolled out across the world region by region.

To be fair it is to be expected that Europe and the US are the places that would get the initial startoff...thats where most of the subscriptions come from.

But ya...if I lived somewhere that didn't allow preorders, I'd be miffed as well.

I ordered the CE via Amazon. $200 including delivery. Most expensive game i've ever bought, and first time in years I've taken a risk to buy a game which i have not even played in demo or seen with my own eyes.

Amazon didn't complain about my delivery address being in Cape Town, let's hope it isn't a problem later. Also got an email from BW's protocol droid that they have no plans on IP blocking and won't be limiting credit card subscriptions either. Basically, if you can get your hands on the game, you'll be able to play, and subscribe.

I don't get why they are limiting the launch. Other MMOs from smaller companies have managed worldwide launches, and EA/BW have way more cash.

Amazon.com delivers to SA, in fact we are on their amazon global program. They use to not ship games and some products to SA . Not sure about amazon.co.uk.

I have mine preordered from amazon.com and already got my code registered and everything. Getting the CE, most expensive game I have bought ever.

Concerning ip's they have said they won't be blocking ip's and for subscription they have said as long as your cc is currently able to buy stuff like bioware points, ect from ea they will accept it, even if the game isn't officially launched in your country. All this can ofcourse change but for now as long as you can get a physical copy you should be fine.
