Starbucks to launch inside select Checkers stores

Wasn't Starbucks on the brink of tanking in SA because of lack of interest? People realizing it's bland coffee, or something like that?

Woolies has Mugg n Bean and some book shop or something Seattle. So I guess that's why Checkers needed to settle for American piepie water coffee :(

I thought woolies had their own brand? Or at least the Waterfront, Sea Point and Century City ones are (not 100% sure about the last one, all CT).

The waterfront woolies is very nice btw, for anyone wanting something not too expensive in Waterfront, when you walk in, just keep heading straight.

I havent seen that many SB's in CT and most of the in store locations are CT so maybe it is a cheaper way of opening more stores in CT faster?

This explains why the local Checkers store manager was so excited talking on the phone about Starbucks.

My local Checky is still one of those 90's-style stinky stores.. cheap but nasty.

Well, at least one can now lift a pinky while your feet is in the mud.

Stopped over at a new one on Linksfield road Jhb - looks like a 5star hotel foyer.
Looks like Checkas wants to up their game.

Coffee shop in same centre busy AF.

I'm Sure this was a great opportunity for Shoprite/checkers to use a local brand / develop their own?
You know, local business and all .....
