Hi All,

Just a quick one. I read in a previous thread a couple of years old here that one can start and stop DSTV as you wish via the DSTV online self service > Manage my services and you will only get charged pro-rata for what you have used in a particular month?

Is this still true? Is it as easy as clicking the on off switch and that's that? No fees etc?
If so only watching on weekends (Friday - Sunday) should only cost R300 (750pm / 30 = R25pd x 12)

Thanks in advance!

You can switch services on and off more than once a month. I did it for a while and it worked great.

Then all of a sudden, I got a strange error code which stopped me switching services on again. I used the DSTV Twitter account to get them to switch me on and off and that worked for a while until, amazingly, they started to bill me amounts that made no sense. They claimed I need to pay around R600 or something to switch on but I had over a R1000 credit in my account. Despite them sending me proof of the credit, they still wanted me to pay in anyway which made no sense.

I then closed my account and got them to pay me back the outstanding amount. It took over two months to pay it back but I got it eventually.

To get more to the point, this method is not recommended since DSTV eventually mess it up and force your to either quit doing it or cancel your account.

such a pity as I only watch DSTV sometimes on Weekends otherwise it's just streaming all the time. Think I'm going to cancel and see if i survive :P

We do this, but it's not the primary decoder, thing they classified as holiday viewing. I think you don't get charged for the holiday viewing ones but on the primary decoder its a disconnect and reconnection fee. That said I could be talking ***.

I spoke to a sales woman who said I can connect and disconnect a secondary decoder but not a primary. But if I disconnect either decoders I won't pay a reconnection fee as the disconnection was instructed by me. i.e. they only charge for reconnection if they disconnect you for not paying

Let me just get this clear, if i have a primary decoder at home which is connected 24/7 and i go to my holiday home and want to watch DSTV for one week i have to pay an extra full prescription?

EDIT: never mind came across this. Explains the new "holiday viewing" with the month-to-month contract.
