Starter bicycle just to exercise

Not bad, also look for something like the Merida Matts 40, bit better built, hard tail with disc breaks and aluminium frame.
Got one myself for R3k. very good bikes to start off with

Just be very careful with cheap bikes, its always better to buy a much older more expensive bike for the same price. As you pay for the gears/wheel frames/sprockets/Cranks.

Eg: get a 2003 model bike that now costs R8000 for probably much less than 3k.

thank you!

Do not buy that Dunlop!

Any cheap bike is going to give you endless problems.

There are quite a few private distributors of good bike brands all over the place, I bought a Silverback for 30% less than most retailers from a guy in Elloff (out in the plattelande). Check on "BikeHub" for these guys, or I can PM you my guys details, very honest trustworthy guy.

Anything else would be better, honestly.

For 3k shop around a bit more.

I have a Dunlop like that you can buy from me if you want. It didn't give me any problems except the tubes that came with it(coz I was too fat for it :p), but it's got Continentals now.

It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

If you plan to ride regularly, say an hour every day or so get something new for minimum R5k, second hand you should be able to get R3000 entry level. Whatever you do, do not buy a Game/Makro/PicknPay/Checkers/Spar bicycle.
Problem with the Dunlops etc are they're not made for hard/far riding. Going to the cafe /school at most 2km away is probably fine. 10k+ rides couple of times a week and those won't last long.
