Starting Salary for 1st Year Engineer

Nope, Computer Science and Advanced Maths of Finance (it was a hybrid course between the two). The combination pushed the salary up quite a bit.

What should the starting salary be for a engineer (Bsc or BEng only:)?
This is straight out of varsity after 4 years.

Let me get it started.
I started with about 17.5k after deductions and after a year am at about 20.5k after deductions. (Big parastatal company)

Is there anybody willing to devulge any details?

I might not like my current job but that doesn't mean I want to get fired for revealing "confidential" information.

I think it is rubbish that salary information is not public to begin with.

I started at about 5k per month... as an appy, doing my year in service after tech. Jumped to like 13k once I qualified.

A bit of both actually. We have contractors doing our work. But we are in the middle of a transition period where we are going to takeover from them.

They earn a lot more than me though atm

I worked on PLC's for about 9 months, there is money in it, but i wanted to kill myself it was so boring.
Motion control is cool though

Control is very interesting. I'm trying to get into that side now at work. I did specialise in it and it kinda was my major. Even my thesis was about that

In the past 2 years I have fought for decent increases and a promotion to no avail. Biggest increase was 2%.

I am now at 3.5yrs of work experience, 2.5yrs as an Analyst with my company, and my currently salary is a whole R7,248.00 (Per Year) more than it was when I started.

The developers are only getting 4% increase a year (sometimes nothing - even bonuses are doubtful) and some have been here for over 6 years adding tons of value to the business. Reasoning behind this is because the business side brings in the cash while developers are just a helping hand in getting the deal done.

Wow, indusEng, that sucks. Move! My raises in the first 5 years of work where very high and only now have steadied at around inflation based increases each year. A decent developer in my industry with 5-10 years experience should be earning between 550K pa and 800K PA depending on system, language, demand, and skill. I know plenty of engineers in that bracket.

Its like that everywhere. Profit centres get paid much better than cost centres.

Well there's a lot of money in that field and he probably graduated Summa Cum Laude. There are lots of variables in determining salaries.

If you really enjoy your job, there isn't much stress. I used to work over 100 hrs a week, but didn't have a problem with it because I enjoyed my job.
