Start off with a CC, but are you sure this is a good idea considering you are AntiTech?

I don't know about the legal matter regarding registering a company, other that it's surprisingly easy going by what I heard from a friend that did a few years ago.

I wouldn't plan on doing it in a couple of years, there's already a LOT of ISPs and if the new sea cables come through their numbers will probably double. It's going to be a stiff market with tight margins so entering late isn't going to help.

It's just me 2 cents.

lol im a tech by profession, but i dabble, i studied economics, management, English, law, computer science, accounting and other stuff i cant remember.

Just always had this idea of starting up a low cost ISP for techies, Small client base of like 300 ~ 500. Something like an exclusive club.

Sorry double post. Yeah i hear ya, i don't want to be a "big" ISP though just 300 or so of my closest friends :D like a small Tech family :D

You can form a business by means of either a public/private company, cc, partnership, etc, however I'm guessing that a cc will be the quickest and easiest for yourself.

You will then need to become a saix or is reseller, which can be done by visiting www.saix.net and www.is.co.za. If you want to offer numerous services such as ftp, pop, smtp, web hosting, dns name servers, etc, you'll have to set up a private box. If you're starting small, I don't see why a diginet line couldn't handle this however it's obviously a better (and more expensive) option to get a co-leased or dedicated server from a hosting provider such as www.hetzner.co.za.

I think you should research the business environment and develop a model before continuing as the South African ISP market is a hard one to penetrate. You're going to have to offer something unique and put up with a lot of customer complaints and ignorance whilst making an incredibly tiny profit margin on your products. I can't remember the saix pricing model, but I do recall that their was a news post here a while back which disclosed the cost price per gb.
