State capture inquiry begins

I wonder what she meant by this.
1.) That they were already corrupt, or
2.) that the capture had happened and they couldn't stop it.
#2, Meaning no one was allowed to be look down on the captured as everyone was captured. That is how Zuma people used to talk.

Gigaba in trouble: https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/art...ays-gigaba-told-him-to-look-after-the-guptas/

The State Capture Commission has heard explosive claims that former Cabinet minister, Malusi Gigaba told a senior government executive to 'look after' the Guptas during a meeting at the family’s Saxonwold mansion.

Testifying on Wednesday, former Denel CEO, Riaz Saloojee, described three different meetings with the Guptas – one at which Gigaba was present, a second where the Guptas hauled out the son of former president Jacob Zuma, Duduzane – supposedly as a “show of force” – and a third, during which he was asked why he didn’t take money.

Saloojee was ousted as CEO of Denel in 2015, shortly after Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown had installed a new board and despite having achieved huge success in Denel’s turn-around strategy over a three-year period.

On Monday, deputy director-general at the Public Enterprises Department Kgathatso Tlhakudi testified that the appointment of 2015 board, chaired by Daniel Mantsha, marked the company's decline financially and governance.

Former Denel CEO drops bombshell about meetings with Guptas

In a startling testimony before the state capture inquiry on Wednesday, former Denel group CEO Riaz Saloojee has placed former minister Malusi Gigaba, Duduzane Zuma and someone who was introduced to him as "Ace Magashule's son" at the Gupta family's Saxonwold home in 2012.

Saloojee admitted that he attended three meetings with members of the controversial family at the behest of their business ally Salim Essa within the first six months of his appointment at the state-owned armaments company.

After spending most of Wednesday morning describing the successes of his turnaround strategy during his three-year tenure at Denel between 2012 and 2015, Saloojee testified that Essa contacted him in 2012 and asked him to attend a meeting that would be in both Denel's and his "interests".

Saloojee said at the time he was aware of who the Gupta brothers were and had met Essa at a number of events relating to the defence industry.

Fikile Mbalula to appear before state capture inquiry

The former minister told a media briefing that Trevor Manuel’s testimony was true and that he would ‘amplify the truth’.
The commission of inquiry into state capture will hear testimony from former sports minister Fikile Mbalula on Friday.

At a media briefing in February, Mbalula confirmed evidence from former cabinet minister Trevor Manuel that he had been informed about his appointment as sports minister by one of Gupta brothers, the family alleged to have wielded significant influence over former President Jacob Zuma and gained lucrative state contracts through this relationship.

#StateCaptureInquiry: Mbalula was shocked when Ajay Gupta called to congratulate him

Johannesburg - The ANC's head of elections Fikile Mbalula has told the Zondo commission that he "froze" and was shocked when he got a call from Ajay Gupta congratulating him on his appointment as minister of sports and recreation.

Mbalula appeared at the inquiry on Friday to recount his encounter with the Guptas. His appearance follows that of former finance minister Trevor Manuel and former communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda. Both men confirmed that they were present in an ANC NEC meeting in 2011 when Mbalula confessed that he had been told of his ministerial appointment by the Guptas.

'Scared' ANC NEC members didn't support Mbalula against Guptas, inquiry hears

.Johannesburg - When former sports minister Fikile Mbalula stood up in an African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) meeting in 2011 detailing his frustrations with the Gupta family, none of the party top brass in the meeting, including former president Jacob Zuma, supported him or indicated a willingness to deal with the controversial family's influence over the State.

Mbalula told the state capture commission of inquiry that he could not understand why the more than 80 ANC NEC members could not deal with the Gupta issue or even appoint an internal investigation. Instead, an NEC member stood up and ''rubbished'' what he said.

It is odd that Fikile is the same one who was supporting uBaba's chosen one even after learning of his devious ways with the Guptas, it does not make sense since it was clear who would be in charge had NDZ won, he is trying too hard to portray himself as,a victim here but sone things don't make sense.

Fikile's albatross: People always asked if I were a 'Gupta minister'

Former minister Fikile Mbalula says he "suffered" and was "attacked" for taking a stand and informing the ANC top brass that Ajay Gupta allegedly knew about his Cabinet appointment before he was offered the job.

Mbalula testified before inquiry chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo on Friday.

Mbalula told Zondo that Gupta allegedly "congratulated" him for his appointment as minister of sports and recreation, a position then president Jacob Zuma had not yet offered him.
