State capture inquiry begins

I would've sold the country for some island with all the luxuries and amenities (solar, toilets etc) and a small army and enough ammo (protection against ARRRsome pirates)

TBH I would not betray the country in such a way. Sies. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I see Tunisia have appointed a technocratic government. I wonder if we'd ever see one.
It will have it's own challenges which will have to be managed, time will tell. I am just wondering how all of that would be managed, perhaps the structure of the government is different.

Mokonyane was deep into this thing, no wonder she was so passionate about defending Zuma.
What is brazen is that she told all this to the commission and thinks this is all perfectly normal. I mean what is 2.2 million between friends. What a monumental piece of garbage this woman is. I suppose this is Zupta tradition.

And while on we are on that topic, @thechamp , can you lend me 1.73 million? It is so much less than 2.2 million :p

Doesn't seem to have made all that much money. Actually most of them got chump change. The Guptas weren't keen on sharing that much. Oh the Zuma's benefitted and those who took the opportunity to scavenge while Zuma opened up the system to loot like the likes of Koko and others at Eskom.

Sad that they sold the country so cheaply.

That's the problem with dirty money, it's hard to keep it for a rainy day, that's why Gigaba spent it all on fancy suits.

How would we know how much she got though ? Till this scandal came out, we didn't know about this 2.2 Million freebie.

We'll probably never know for sure. I think most of them got offshore accounts with stashes. For example, Jonas was offered R600m to hand over the keys to the treasury but it seems Malusi made do with bags full of cash. My guess is he got at least R100m in offshore accounts but being crude he also demanded the bags continue. And the bags seem to have been when he was minister of public enterprises. It's possible to wised up as time passed.

So cheaply? What else do you expect? Now listen properly ...

Tbh, hearing these crazy numbers being bantered about, you soon start wondering if they realize how much it is.

The R600m was probably a carrot, and would probably never be paid in full. Once you are corrupt, you have to keep playing the tune, or risk getting fired (or worse).

Reminds me of the joke. Dirty old man vs sweet young lady:
Madam would you sleep with me for a million dollars?
Sure thing!
Would you sleep with me for ten dollars?
Do you think I'm a whore!
We've established that, we're just haggling over the price...

Old news, but astonishing how brazen the Zuptas takeover of Eskom was:

Even worse that they seem unlikely to be held to account. They're even refusing to appear before the commission and then they do it is nonsensical testimonies going off on conspiracy ranting and even telling outright lies. And even then they go unchallenged. ****ing depressing.

Whats going to be the biggest FU to SA...? None of these high flyers are going to see the inside of a court.

They sold the country to the Guptas (thanks JZ). That is treason. The EFF is trashing Clicks about shampoo... they are missing doing something usefull for once.

The EFF have never been about doing anything useful. Their leaders benefited handsomely out of the chaos Zuma created when capturing the state. He destroyed the state's capability to fight back and in the aftermath the likes of the EFF leadership were also able to pick up useful scraps.

Fighting corruption means they risk getting swept in the wake of coming prosecutions so they won't do that. They'll carry on with these useful distractions.
