Looking for an ISP who can offer me a static ip on something small like 1GB account.

Alternatively do Axxess (my current ISP) offer static ip's on their IS 'Just Uncapped' accounts.

What are my options...

DynDns is not an option for me so don't even suggest it.

Thx
J

I know MWEB Business does static IPs on their Business ADSL offerings, you can try them but I'm sure it's quite pricey...

If you give some reasons as to why you need the static IP, I may be able to help you further?

I think the smallest is a 5GB capped account that comes with a router and 5 static IP addresses. It is an IS service - 12 month contract.

My Cisco router doesn't seem to like DynDns very much and I need to publish an IP to a user in another country so that they can connect and bypass their censorship etc.

Can you use a Windows/Linux client behind the Cisco to do the updates, perhaps? http://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/

Also, if you use DynDNS for that, be careful which subdomain you choose. Some of them (e.g. dnsalias.org) are blocked by China, whilst some (e.g. ham-radio-op.net) are not. Took me quite a while to get email up and running for a guy that went there on a business trip. Not sure which country you refer to, but that's my experience with it.

You could also use changeip.org and register a free .za.net domain

Yep its China, thanks for the info.

wonder how stiff the penalties are if the chinese government finds out you are bypassing their internet protocols

I know cybersmart will give you a static IP for an extra R50 a month, or used to anyway, but you will have to buy another router from them. Most ISP's offer a static IP option, most don't advertise it... just phone them all...
