Who has FTTH and has also applied / using a static IP ( single or subnet )
I am in interested in how this is setup and how it works -- the technical networking details.
and
How much extra you pay

saw this the other day

Thank you
I remember looking at that some time ago -- and -- never followed it up
I do use Axxess as one of my ISP's

I do know what L2TP is -- Layer Two Tunneling Protocol ( the "old-way" )
Any possibility of getting some tech to explain the -- "new-way" ...
BEFORE I sing up for some -- static IP's

nah they assign it via username. i also thought its that l2tp rubbish so i called and asked.

so most likely they assign the ip to the ldap profile

edit: sorry i meant account name.. is what the guy said. i assume they have various references tied to your account details. so pppoe would be the login and dhcp the line reference probably

On Mind the Speed they reserve your DHCP IP forever if you want a static IP with them. Or else your DHCP IP will be yours as long as your router doesn't go offline for longer that 3 weeks (Their DHCP lease time)

OK
Got it
How often do they cycle the dynamic IP's ?
With Telkom it used to be every 24 hours
ADSL / VDSL / Fibre are really "nailed-up" technologies and should not be treated as "Dial-Up" ...
Everyone should be given a couple of IPv6 IP's

Duckdns is free .

PM me if you need a hand setting it up on your router.

AXXESS, when assigning a static IP, issue your account with a private address and then NAT the public assigned IP to that private address for you to do as you wish.
