Ok I have a issue. I am clueless about this subject. I am using Axxess MTN LTE. I also have a Rain sim arriving hopefully by Friday. I need to have a static ip address and have no idea what to do.

I do suspect my ip is not static. I need this to use a SIP phone.

Can anyone help me?

I don't think you can get a static IP on any mobile network.

What makes you think that?

It's an online job that I am applying for. They said I need a static IP address as with mobile internet the ip doesnt remain static and the sip phone won't work.

Is it possible to force it to static with a VPN.

Sorry I'm really not clued up on this and think I sound a bit like a freaking moron.

Vodacom Business LTE comes with a static IP.

(Far as I know, you need to be a registered entity, with docs to apply)

As others have mentioned, a VPN is likely going to be your best bet. VPN services do offer this, but you could rent a VPS and achieve the same.

What about a dynamic DNS, isnt that the same thing in a way?
Depends on the reason for the static IP.. if it is to allow the company to whitelist the IP, DDNS won't work, since most firewalls (or other systems) only allow whitelisting IP addresses..

re-opening this age old issue with rain haha.
I need a static IP so that a certain financial institution which I do business with, can whitelist the IP, which I then use to connect to their SFTP (hence the requirement for a static IP I assume)
I honestly dont want to really give up my rain connection as ive had 95% uptime over the last years and get a constant 300/80 connection speed wireless, when I wire it up it goes to 580/200 so not really keen to give that up at R999 pm

Here is what the operator on the other side needs, I thought about going VPN to get a static IP from there, but not really sure who offers this at the moment and if it would suffice

requires a SFTP site to be set up – this will be to manage the file transfer between TP4U and Nedbank. Secure File transfer protocol (SFTP) is a secure version of File transfer protocol and a part of the SSH protocol for easy data transfer and data access over a secure shell stream. It establishes a secure connection and then provides a higher level of protection for data while transferring it. Nedbank does not dictate which SFTP method is used only that the default port (21) is not used. Once the environment is setup will however need the following:
  1. Static IP address:
  2. Port number: (not default of 21)
  3. Username
  4. Password

Loads of the VPN providers offer static IP's.
first hit in google:

Thanks, ive looked a nord already, my issue is though that if I get the VPN connection, Rain has admitted to throttling VPN connections, so id have some issues there anyway, not that it would be a total trainsmash based on my current Rain output anyway. LOL
