Dynamic IP only from what i recall, you can use some dyndns to update the ip and do port forwarding on the router itself.

Any dynamic dns service works fine for this. On some of my setups I need to VPN to in remote locations I use SoftEther (https://www.softether.org/). Their service includes free dynamic dns hosting (Only free for individuals. If you are using it for business you need to pay a small fee to them), which is pretty awesome.

Looks good, but will this work for ADSL, i.e. me using this to be able to get hold of the IP camera

Yes it will.

You will either have to forward ports on your router to your IP Camera / DVR or if you have an always on computer/server at home get that to host a VPN in to which you login from outside and you're golden.

The ports are already forwarded, at the moment I currently make a note of the IP address (which changes a lot... thanks AH) and then I view the camera remotely.

I presume, Telkom's service requires you to be with them as your ISP?

Ok tnx for the feedback.
I am not an expert, but got the access to my monitoring device sorted on iburst, but its way to slow.
I tried the similar arrangement on Telkom LTE with the B593 router, but the port shows closed on "you get signal".
I was advised that Telkom LTE service will not allow external traffic, or maybe I am doing something wrong.
I use dyndns, but can't get it working on LTE:mad:

An option might be to get a cheap VPS service, I think there are some under R100 and setup a tunnel or VPN.

This is easy... much easier than that OpenVPN software from 10 years ago. It is a bit overkill for my needs, I don't need a VPN, just need some way of mapping some arbitrary domain to my IP and updating the IP manually

You don't need a static IP, a dyndns or to open any ports !!! Direct connections are possible without it in 95% of cases. A central server is only needed to start the process. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UDP_hole_punching

There are several VPNs based on this. I like www.zerotier.com because
* everything except the central server is open source
* The central server does not have the keys
* It's free for networks of up to 10 computers.

Well nicroets... I need a static IP, and the reason why is so that I can enter the info into the app I use to watch the camera, remotely.
My IP changes several times a day, as AH fiddle with their network... yesterday it changed at 13:00:00 so bang, lost the video feed...

If you have a "computer" on the same LAN as the camera, you enter it's IP address. Then forward the port through your VPN.

And with "computer", it can be Windows or any Linux box, e.g. Rasberry PI.

A VPN is overkill for this....
