I hate to complain again but feel its necessary to make people aware.

IS 4MB Uncapped Account

Browsing speeds: Pathetic, 512k DSL speed at best
FTP speeds: 30kb/s
Torrent speeds: 5-20kb/s in the day on well seeded torrents (20-50 kb/s at night lately if I'm lucky)
Local gaming pings: 60-100ms in the day, sometimes 300, settles to 30ms at night. [30ms constant on a Saix account]

My line gives full 4MB speed constantly on Saix accounts, day or night.

Last week my account randomly died and wouldn't login, so I had to call my ISP who then logs a fault with IS and hours later it was re-enabled.
Now, an hour into the new month it randomly dies again and won't reconnect? Is this really too much to ask?

I never thought I'd say this, Telkom is a saint compared. The difference with Telkom is, I phone them up, wait 10 minutes (most I've waited is like 20 minutes) and speak to someone who runs diagnostics and support over the phone.
That, and I get constantly full speed, never any downtime and had probably 2 line faults in the last 6 years.

DO NOT waste your money, time or nerves on an IS-based Uncapped Account. I wouldn't be using it this month if it wasn't for the mandatory 1 month's cancellation notice. Its very poor how they can sell such a sub-par service for R500 a month and call it uncapped.

currently getting 350kb/sec on torrents with is uncapped basic (axxess)
But i do agree that the service is up and down, probably not the best option as far as uncapped goes.

+100000

I'm IS uncap-less as of today. Running on prepaid until I decide whom to go with. Toying with the Openweb Gold account but waiting on more feedback first.

I was capped by Telkom on the 15th of last month after depleting the 9 GB top up I'd purchased over and above my alloted 5 GB
at an extra cost of almost R600. I opened an uncapped 4Mb Mweb account. Admittedly I have never seen download speeds above
150 Kbs but I did manage to download 26 GB by the end of May

Same here, I have a 4mb account with mweb and during the day currently (torrents) 4Kb/s download sometimes I hit 40Kb/s. Even during weekends and early mornings I never get above 150Kb/s.

Chavez, I used IS uncapped too. Switched to Openweb's MWeb Gold product..... downloading now at +-380k/sec. Yesterday, 30k/sec was deemed "fast".
Perhaps you should consider this as an option.

Are you getting these speeds on news servers (international) during the day or at night?

don't use news servers - but other torrents etc seems to be unthrottled at 12am til about 7am daily. During the day speeds are terrible on everything except standard web browsing.

I really feel sorry for you guys. Hope Africa gets good ISP service soon. Internet should really be a basic thing nowadays.

was getting 400kbs on torrents last night, and had 200kbs until 13:00, now its 30, much better than afrihost

I'm on my way to Oz so wont have to complain about this rubbish soon.

I used to live there and it is not much better. Especially Australian Gamers, they lag like no tomorrow well for us that is. But try and PING to an AUS server and you will notice how much latency there really is. But great country nonetheless. I used to be in Maryborough Queensland.

signed up today for an uncapped and only reach download speeds of -20kb/s and should have known it would have been to good to be true!!! this really sucks!!! why does the south african adsl market sell you half truths???

Not sure where you lived but mates of mine have 16 and 24Mbit connections and aren't complaining at all. They're in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.
