Reading the MyBB article of a few days ago regarding "building" your own sports platform as opposed to Super sport, and the different sports platforms available;

I cancelled my DSTV subscription over a year ago as it just wasn't providing R900's worth anymore.

As a family we're not big TV watchers (movies, series) but the minions used to constantly watch kids' shows and animated series.

I'm a massive sports fan (rugby, cricket, football, F1, Motogp, golf, tennis, and everything in between) but even so, I couldn't justify paying that amount of money anymore.

Sure I miss having access to all the different sports, especially over weekends, but there are other options available. The kids are now fully migrated to Netflix and the SO is now also watching all kinds of series on Netflix, which she never used to do on DSTV.

To the peeps still subscribed to DSTV (especially Premium): How do you justify staying subscribed? Purely the sports offering? If its not an affordability issue - DSTV has always been available and you'll stay subscribed forever for no particular reason - what keeps you subscribed? For the okes like me who's counting pennies, how high is DSTV on your list of must-have's?

Cancelled about 5 years ago, never looked back

Netflix, Prime etc

Not a big sport fan so i will pop round to local dros if want to watch something

Welcome to non-repeat TV. I made the case to my family 2 years ago, and some has moved and some are in the process.

I'm not sure which data option you are using but I'm almost 100% sure you can even add Showmax on top of your current subs (ISP + Netflix) and you will still be under the R900 subs for DSTV.

For the members that does not have fibre access yet, the top ISP's do have pretty decent LTE deals.

Lte does not exist every where

Netfilx, the only "real" alternative is only good enough if looking at the U.S. subscription - which is not allowed here... but peeps are using VPNs etc. to bypass that rule. So far it seems the studios that govern aren't doing much or anything about that, so is it now considered ok, or are many in for a later shock?? Not something I would gamble with.

But we also hardly watch series now, and yet DStv still has enough for us.

Hi. Does anybody know if you can use a Showmax 'voucher' via your DSTV Explora decoder (that is connected to the net)

I do use my PC, was just wondering. Funny part is that Showmax chat says that you can...

I had Premium DSTV for a few months last year. I only upgraded because of the rugby. Normally we are on the Compact package.

We moved recently and I got a decent fibre connection. I've cancelled DSTV and now have Netflix and am using a friends DSTV Now account as a trial. My family is getting used to Netflix and I am the only one watching "Live TV".

So for now Netflix will is great & I will be exploring some Live TV options when I have more time.
