Hi,
I am having huge problems getting anything to download smoothly in Steam. Except for Team Fortress 2.
What happens is that I start the download, it tells me that the download has started but then nothing happens for about 5min. Then it it starts downloading, but only in short bursts with random gaps in between bandwidth activity.
Now I am only on a 384kbps connection. I know that any downloads will be slow. But I would be happy to even get a steady, un-interrupted 30-39KB/s download. With the current situation it will take days longer than the already days long download process.
As I mentioned above Team Fortress 2 isn't affected. The updates download at a steady 39KB/s without any sudden breaks in activity.
I have tried every server in SA, as well as a few international servers. I recently got a brand new Netgear modem and web activity works as expected in all other situations. I also force-reset the client blob in the Steam folder that is suggested as a cure for many downloading issues.
I am with Afrihost on the 384kbps uncapped bundle. Speed tests regularly show that I am getting good speeds for a 384kbps line, so I don't think it is my data package or line.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Otherwise I will just wait till sometime in November when I have a 1mbps line
