I am unable to get Steam to update my Half-Life 2 after successfully logging into Steam. I am using an iBurst desktop modem connected via network (not USB).

I have run the Steam Connection Test and the Steam Background Applications Test. All the tests passed. I've deleted steam.dll, steamUI.dll and ClientRegistery.Blob. Afterwards, the Steam clients updates, logs in and the downloads remain stuck at 0%.

I've disabled my firewall, antivirus and antispyware.

There is no activity in the Steam bandwidth monitor. Has anybody got any ideas? I’m at a total loss – no help from Steam, no help from iBurst helpdesk.

Well I dont use steam, but Im shure some people here do. You should get help, and im shure Ive heard of people updating their steam with Iburst.

no reason why it shouldnt work, if it connects and the steam client updates then it must be working, maby its a steam server error.

No, steam does work through iBurst. But don't even think about playing CS: Source with iBurst. You'll get like 150 ping.

Is 150ms ping that bad? I geuss for a FPS it is....

Well a friend of mine with a good connection has got a ping to battle.net in the 50ms before. I geuss if you have great signal and are in CPT (if hosted on IS in Cape town) it would help. Im shure you could play under optimum conditions.

Steam does work with Iburst, I updated steam in no time when I wasn't capped & then updated my HL2 Ep1 at 30kB/s with iburst, try using the usb to plug modem in...

EkHaatvensters: 150 ping is too much on an FPS, it's tough to play like that.

i also update steam just fine .... i've fully downloaded and installed hl2 ep1 and sin episodes emergence - though they killed my cap :)

I updated my steam with iburst through a router, i read somewhere that there was a problem with the modem connected directly to the pc... maybe they fixed that and made them change roles dunno???

i played on cs once with a ping between 150 - 200 and it wasn't that bad i played with minimal lag.

Moved to a spot in the dark green iburst zone and got average 30 - 40

iburst isnt too bad as long as you are in the green zones.

30-40ms! Thats nice. I cant wait for my new tower to come up.. still.

Il be in a green zone then, and the tower wil be new plus another new one just up the road. And Ill still have my antenna, so my signal should be pretty good.

I have noticed that iBurst works better with some international sites if a background ping to www.iburst.co.za is run. (See http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=154996#post154996) This was a workaround that was in common use over a year ago, then iBurst fixed the problem, whatever it was. It now seems to be necessary again from time to time.

Give it a try and see if it helps...

Thank goodness there's no cable service provider in South Africa, they would've kicked anything from ADSL to iBurst!

I was on BT ADSL and when playing RtCW:ET (Operation Market Garden map, 50 players) my ping time would've been 15 -20, the NTL cable LPBs (low ping bastards) ping time? Between 0 -5.
