I will still rather use Bazzite or my preference, CachyOS. CachyOS has served me incredibly well so far; it takes some time to configure for optimal use, but is worth it.

SteamOS for me still seems a bit bespoke for hardware. Valve will get there.

There was no easy way for me to update Bazzite Deck image (43 to 44) which is why I decided to try SteamOS. I would have had to essentially re-install Bazzite as there isn't a way to just run an update on the current image.

But got it right eventually.

Also, going by Steam's own charts, it is outselling most games. I guess the price is a non-problem, but how organic are the numbers?

Steam OS is still noticeable in a pre-release state, had such a weird issue now trying to get Firefox installed in desktop mode. Firstly it seems having ipv6 enabled was just not working properly and couldn't ping or access anything (DNS was working though). Then after disabling ipv6 the Discover store wouldn't load anything but network access was working.

After about 20 minutes of troubleshooting with Claude, figured out it was stale cache in some path that was causing the store to just fail to load anything, after manually removing a cache path things just started to work. PITA.

It also looks like Nvidia will be raising the prices of their RAM next week.

According to our source, a 3GB GDDR7 chip currently costs between $60 and $70. A standard 2GB GDDR7 chip reportedly costs around $20. This means the 3GB version can cost about three times as much despite providing 50% more capacity.

Such pricing would add hundreds of dollars to the memory cost of...
