Is anyone else having an issue with Steam purchases failing recently ?
error message is due to "Credit card company declining your details"
It was workin fine last time I made a purchase 1 Oct.'22 and yes details are correct, still same from profile, nothing changed and card hasn't expired.
Has Steam SA been blacklisted wit MasterCard or something ?

Bought something in Sep and in Oct, both times the initial transaction declined, and I had to wait for Standard Bank to send an Anti-Fraud Confirmation SMS, then after confirming I could retry the transaction and it went through.

Yeah, pretty much the same experience. This was for a purchase last week.

What do you mean by this?

Whatever the price is, that's what I'm billed. Unless you talking about credit cards.
FNB has an additional charge on certain companies listing products in our local rand currency like netflix or steam. So R100 becomes for example R110. I'm not paying another "tax" or "fee" just because. So it's steam cards directly from FNB or int shops like GMG. Sure it's R10... however **** them.

Perhaps you are blocked due to unusual behaviour. It has never happened to me using Steam, being both an FNB and ABSA banker, but I know they have algorithms which kick in when some odd activities are detected. Fraudulent behaviour and whatnot.

In Covid time I got blocked twice, within one week*. Received an SMS both times, and within 5 minutes I was called having to go through a security/risk check. Haven’t happened to me at any other time.

*One was related to an automated domain payment. I was pretty peeved with that.

This, I was in a similar situation about a month ago.

I completely missed the SMS and didn't confirm purchases and ended up having my card blocked. Had to phone them to get it sorted out. But other than that, no other issues with Standard Bank and Steam purchases.

Yes. I can confirm this is what happened, wit SB. - No sms though but right after my post I received an automated call from the card division regarding "suspicious activity" - I confirmed the transactions an all's good now.
- Never happened before in 10 Years.

Sometimes they really get this wrong. With FNB you can opt-out, but then you have to sign a waiver.

Never had issues (unfortunately, then I take it as a "sign" to not buy more games!! :) )
Also. I have had a call or two from the card fraud division.

This post has been answered and the issue resolved.
Thank you for everyone's feedback and insights.

So I tried to purchase some Steam Games on Black Friday using my Discovery Platinum Card on Friday evening for around R1900.
I purchase about 3 steam games a month using this credit card... probably about R1000 or R2000 a month.
The transaction was declined. I waited a few minutes and tried again... it was declined again.
A few minutes later I get an email from Discovery Bank... "

CASE #[899XXXX] - Help us verify a suspicious transaction

The Discovery Bank Fraud team

Since it was already late at night I left it.
But this morning when I tried to use my card at the hardware store I realised they had completely blocked my card.
So I went home and phoned them.
They showed me how to unblock the card, etc. etc.
Waited a few hours and just now tried again on Steam Games....
Same thing. Transaction Declined. Card Blocked.
So now I phone them again... and now the real story comes out...
Steam Games has been flagged for an "uptick in fraudulent activity lately" and all transactions over R1000 are automatically blocked.
So now they have to put a special allowance on my account for me to be able to purchase from Steam Games.

Anybody else notice this?
