Does anyone else have this problem?

I bought a retail copy of Just Cause 2 a few months back and as you know, it requires steam to install and it's added to your games library.

The other day steam started downloading an "update" for Just Cause 2 but the total size is just over 4GB.. Why on earth would it redownload the game? Should I just delete local content files and re-install from the CD?

A friend of mine also told me about his CSS redownloading several times. I can't find any useful posts on the net regarding this issue.. Any advise would be appreciated, or if this had happened to anyone else please let me know how you fixed the particular game. Thanks!

Yeah me too? Keeps doing my Portal over and over again. Right now it's Left 4 Dead 2

nope. never had that issue since it was originally an issue in the very beginning days of steam.

I switched to offline mode till I figure this out, steam is downloading all the time too not full games but updates that are not new.

I had a similar issue with Team Fortress 2. like almost 8gb, did not understand what was going on
So just left it be

My Team Fortress also says 8GB but I started the download to see what happens and then it jumped to 7.7GB and started downloading from there.. :/

I rate I'll try removing the files and then re-installing from CD. Maybe I should go log a ticket with Steam support? The only info I could get on this issue was in here http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1398747. Totally useless though as it doesn't look like there's a solution.

Ok, to0kenZA, then its just checking if you had all the files, then the last 300MB were actual updates. Wheras my problem is that it wants to download the full L4D2, no jumps nothing o_O

That happened to me. It wanted to download 5GB of CS:S but then in the end it was only 300mb.

The day after I downloaded Alien Swarm steam came up with an "update" of 2GB. Needless to say that was exactly the same size of the initial install. Hasn't happened again and I have uncapped so no matter I suppose.

I had this with MW2 a few weeks back. I moved my steam apps folder to a safe location, uninstalled then reinstalled steam, and restored the folder. Steam has behaved much better since then. I dont get delays starting a game, and login issues like I did before.

Ja, sometimes after many steam updates, to the client itself I mean, things get a little borked.

+1

I suspect that it shows that the whole X GB file needs updating but then finds that it can fix most of it with an incremental algo once it starts.

...or your blob is ****ed. i really haven't had this issue since the initial days of steam.

It's happening with my Just Cause though.

I was thinking of trying that. I'm going to reinstall steam.
