Hi Guys

i would to try some steel wool photography. The tricky bit is most sites refer me to steel wool 0000 that i am meant to buy. Can anyone assist with shops in the cape town area?

closes i have right now is: http://www.hardwarecentre.co.za/web/

also i would love to see your guys work if you have done it before??
Any tips i need to know??

I've done it before.

My photos are somewhere in the Stop and take a photo thread. Will search for it now.

Just go to any hardware store and buy the finest steelwool you can get. It'll work. (I bought mine from a local paint shop, never checked any grade or anything).

It'll burn, believe me.

Wear long sleeve clothing, old preferably. Some of the spark will hit you.

Oh and watch out for lapas. I almost burned down my neighbour's.

I actually need to try it again. Only did it that one time. It is fun doing it.

I used a steel egg whisk with a cord tied to the handle..

You insert the steel wool into the ball end of the whisk, light it and start swinging...

remember to puff out the steel wood so there is more gaps for air. this way the burning is richer and brighter :D
if i get everything i will be trying this weekend :D

Have people on hand to stomp out fires. Or you will burn something down :D

If you have the beach... I'm already envious and will not be looking at your photos. :( meh.

;) enjoy. :D

Just imagine trying it with a piece of steel wool this size.

I put a normal-sized piece on top for reference.
