steering rack for the uno .... busted

ok so i did a quick round check on my car today , noticed something when i grab my front left wheel with two hands that its a bit shaky ... right wheel is fine.

so i took it to supa quick malvern this afternoon for a "supa quick" check up and they first thought it was the ball joints but closer inspection it was actually the steering rack thats gone , now with my uno mia 2000 i know theres no power steering but ...

how much life does this thing have left ? im at work now and since i found out im like driving 70 kmph as i know its dangerous driving while its busted.

should i get a refurbished part from uno-city or a brand new one ? cash is a bit low aswell thanks to xmas and early pay.
 
Check scrap yards for a late model accident donor. If price v condition is fair you should be OK.
 
im just scared the person who's part that was has ridden the thing to dust , but ill check tomorrow morning then . im just scared i loose steering as im going home tonight :0

Just take it slow... Reminds me of having the front locating arm come loose on a Polo a couple of years ago. Nearly rolled it at 40km/h :eek:

But I'm sure you'll be fine.
 
You scare to much. If the Uno is not unstable on the road or have very bad play when you steer left/right then stop fretting. You make yourself nervous and that is a danger in itself.

well i guess since it only broke today / yesterday , and theres only slight play i can get home and tomorrow still get the parts . will take out my stress on some cod black ops tonight ;D
 
so i had this strange feeling that something else is wrong , and in fact it was just worn front shocks. so im replacing that today as the steering rack seems to be in good condition .... dont believe what mechanics say until you take it to someone who knows everything about cars.
